Eight children, including a baby, were killed in a mass shooting in Shreveport, Louisiana, after a gunman opened fire across three homes early Sunday morning, according to authorities.
Police said a total of 10 people were shot at approximately 6 a.m., with eight victims dying from their injuries.
The victims ranged in age from 1 to 14 years old.

Following the shootings, police said the suspect fled the scene and carjacked a vehicle in an attempt to escape.
Bordelon described how the incident unfolded after the suspect left the homes.
“The individual responsible once leaving this scene performed a carjacking right here in close proximity to the corner of West 79th and Linwood, at which point in time, Shreveport police patrol officers got behind that vehicle in a chase incident,” Bordelon said.
Law enforcement pursued the suspect into neighboring Bossier City, where the chase ended.
Authorities said the suspect was shot and killed by police following the pursuit.
Police have not released the name of the suspect.
Officials described the crime scene as large and spread across multiple locations.
Investigators said two of the homes were located on the same street, while a third residence was on a nearby street.
“This is an extensive scene unlike anything most of us have ever seen,” Chief Smith said.
No officers were injured during the pursuit or the events that followed, according to police.
Louisiana State Police confirmed that their detectives were requested to assist the Shreveport Police Department with the investigation.
Authorities said the inquiry remains ongoing as investigators work to piece together the sequence of events and determine additional details about the suspect and the victims.
Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux addressed the shooting during a news conference, describing the scale of the incident and its impact on the community.
“This is a tragic situation — maybe the worst tragic situation we’ve ever had,” the mayor said.
“It’s a terrible morning, and we all mourn for the victims,” he added.
Authorities have not provided further information about a possible motive. Investigators continued to process the crime scenes and gather evidence as part of the ongoing investigation.
Police said the shootings occurred in the early morning hours, with the suspect moving between multiple residences before fleeing the area.
The sequence of events remains under review as officials continue to collect witness statements and forensic evidence.
The two surviving victims remain under medical care, with one reported to be in critical condition. Officials have not released their identities.
Law enforcement agencies at the local and state levels remain involved in the investigation as they continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
