Congressional Republicans are moving quickly to respond after the Supreme Court struck down President Donald Trump’s executive order ending birthright citizenship, with Rep. Andy Ogles introducing legislation aimed at preventing what supporters describe as abuse of the nation’s immigration system, as reported by Townhall.

Ogles, a Republican from Tennessee, announced the Anchors Away Act on June 30, saying the legislation would amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to prevent pregnant women from entering the United States when their purpose is to give birth so their child can obtain U.S. citizenship.

The proposal comes as conservatives in Congress look for legislative alternatives following the court’s decision against Trump’s executive action.

The president has urged lawmakers to move rapidly to place the policy into federal law after the executive order was invalidated.

In announcing the measure on social media, Ogles sharply criticized the Supreme Court’s ruling.

“SCOTUS betrayed America,” Ogles wrote. “It’s time to bar pregnant foreigners from coming to this country. We are being colonized.”

He concluded the post with the phrase, “Anchors Away!”

In a separate statement posted the same day, Ogles expanded on his criticism of the court’s decision.

“Today’s United States Supreme Court decision is not only a betrayal of American sovereignty, but a direct attack on our national security.”

According to Ogles, the current interpretation of birthright citizenship creates long-term national security concerns.

“Because of birthright citizenship, foreigners are being born on our soil, groomed by communists and globalists, and embedded into our…” he wrote in the post announcing the legislation.

The Anchors Away Act would amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to prohibit the admission of pregnant women seeking entry into the United States for the purpose of giving birth so their child can acquire American citizenship.

The proposal received support from conservative commentators shortly after its introduction.

“Andy Ogles is the man,” Shawn Farash wrote on X.

“Thank you for your attention to this matter.”

Another conservative commentator, RBe, also endorsed the legislation, posting simply, “This.”

Ogles later outlined his reasoning in comments to Townhall, arguing that the Supreme Court’s ruling diminished the value of American citizenship.

“Today, the Supreme Court cheapened the most valuable thing on planet Earth: U.S. citizenship,” Ogles told Townhall.

“Not only is birthright citizenship clearly not in the U.S. Constitution, but this broken system has allowed foreign nationals to take advantage of our country, our benefits, and our generosity. These foreigners have embedded themselves into our society and are being trained by foreign governments to corrupt our culture.”

He concluded by saying, “I refuse to let these anchor babies colonize our country. Save our sovereignty. Anchors away!”

Ogles’ legislation is one of several efforts now underway among some of the most conservative members of Congress following the Supreme Court’s decision.

Sen. Eric Schmitt has announced similar legislation addressing birthright citizenship and said he also plans to pursue a constitutional amendment designed to settle the citizenship issue permanently.

Meanwhile, President Trump has called on Congress to act quickly to codify the policies contained in his executive order into federal law after the Supreme Court rejected the administration’s approach.

The renewed legislative push signals that congressional Republicans intend to keep birthright citizenship at the forefront of the immigration debate as lawmakers consider whether statutory changes or a constitutional amendment will ultimately be needed to alter current citizenship policy.
