WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
  • Sharon Stone slammed the “terrible dialogue” in her 1993 film Sliver.

  • Her comments came shortly after co-star Billy Baldwin criticized their experience working together.

  • Baldwin alleged there was tension on set and claimed he asked producers not to make him kiss Stone.

  • Despite their past conflict, Baldwin said he hopes to “bury the hatchet” with Stone.

Sharon Stone has delivered a blistering verdict on her 1993 film “Sliver,” criticizing its dialogue just days after former costar Billy Baldwin said he would “never” work with her again.

The renewed attention puts their sharply different memories of the movie back in focus, as reported by Page Six.

In a new interview with Variety, Stone was asked to read several famous lines and identify the films they came from.

The exercise brought her back to “Sliver,” a movie she said she had effectively banished from conversation for years.

One line immediately left the 68-year-old actress struggling to place it.

“You’ve been spending too much time with your vibrator,” the quote read, as Sharon admitted, “God, I don’t remember saying that. Or thinking that.”

Stone initially thought the line might have come from her 1998 science fiction movie “Sphere.” As she continued searching her memory, however, she realized it belonged to “Sliver.”

“No, not ‘Sphere.’ The one, the name of the building. Oh! ‘Sliver,'”she said. Remembering the title did not inspire a warm reassessment of the project.

Stone continued, “I made a rule that no one was allowed to even say that word for years. And that’s why, because, what terrible dialogue. Clearly written by a man without enough to do.”

Joe Eszterhas wrote “Sliver” after previously working with Stone on her breakout movie, the 1992 erotic thriller “Basic Instinct.”

Her comments to Variety aimed directly at the dialogue he supplied for the later film.

“Sliver” casts Stone as a book editor who moves into a luxury Manhattan building. Her character becomes romantically involved with a mysterious tenant portrayed by Baldwin, who is now 63.

The movie was based on Ira Levin’s novel of the same name, but critics panned the film. Stone’s career rebounded two years later when she appeared in Martin Scorsese’s “Casino.”

Her performance in “Casino” brought Stone her first Oscar nomination. It also remains her only nomination for the award.

Baldwin recently offered his own account of making “Sliver,” claiming that tension developed between him and Stone during production.

He discussed their interactions on Tuesday’s episode of the “Lisa Guerrero Unleashed” podcast.

“We got along pretty well the first couple weeks,” he recalled. “And then she wouldn’t say ‘hello’ or ‘goodbye’ to me for the next three months.”

Baldwin alleged that the situation became uncomfortable enough for him to arrange a meeting with the movie’s producers.

He claimed he begged them not to make him kiss Stone during the film’s final love scene.

Elsewhere in the podcast interview, Baldwin criticized Stone for “badmouth[ing]” his acting skills on “Larry King Live” during the week of the movie’s premiere.

He also made several additional allegations about her behavior during production.

Baldwin claimed Stone had “a shrine to [him] in her trailer,” complete with “candles and pictures.”

He further alleged that she walked on crutches for days after he stepped on her with a socked foot during a scene.

Even while revisiting the alleged tension, Baldwin said he would “love to bury the hatchet” with Stone.

He expressed hope that the two could eventually meet and that he could “shake her hand” or “give her a hug.”

Stone’s Variety remarks centered on her distaste for the movie’s dialogue, while Baldwin’s podcast comments focused on his alleged interactions with her.

Together, the interviews have revived attention around a film Stone once refused to let anyone even mention.
