A woman in Brownsville Borough, Pennsylvania, shot a man who allegedly broke into her home late Tuesday night, entered her bedroom, and refused to leave, according to Pennsylvania State Police and local reports.

Troopers responded to a reported disturbance near the intersection of 18th Street and Water Street in Brownsville Borough in Fayette County around 11:30 p.m., according to reporting from KDKA-TV.

The borough is located about an hour south of Pittsburgh.

Here’s What They’re Not Telling You About Your Retirement

As The Blaze reported, investigators said the woman inside the home first heard someone beating on her door. Authorities stated that a male suspect then used a brick to break a window and gain entry into the residence.

A criminal complaint indicated that after entering, the suspect made his way into the woman’s bedroom.

According to police, the man continued advancing toward the woman and refused to leave the home. At that point, investigators said the woman discharged a firearm, shooting the suspect in the leg.

Officials told KDKA that the man continued moving toward her after the initial gunshot.

The woman then fired a second shot, striking the suspect in the side of the head, authorities said. Despite being shot, investigators reported that a physical struggle followed between the suspect and the homeowner.

Police said the woman was able to escape the residence as troopers arrived at the scene. Responding officers found the suspect inside the home with multiple gunshot wounds.

Emergency personnel transported the suspect by medical helicopter to a hospital in Pittsburgh for surgery. Authorities said his condition was not immediately released.

State police said the circumstances fall under Pennsylvania’s castle doctrine, which allows individuals to use deadly force to protect themselves inside their homes.

The suspect, identified as 69-year-old Ronald Rosiek, faces multiple felony charges in connection with the incident, including aggravated assault, criminal trespassing, and burglary, according to court records cited by KDKA.

Family members of the woman were alerted to the incident shortly after it occurred. Her brother told KDKA he initially feared she had been seriously harmed when he arrived at the scene.

“I thought it was her,” the brother said. “[The] officer said, ‘No, she took care of business. She got beat up a little bit, but she shot the guy.’”
