Suspect Goes on Disturbing and Bizarre Rant After Shooting Gas Station Worker [WATCH]

A suspect wanted in connection with a shooting at a gas station in Columbia, Maryland, is in custody in New York after authorities tracked her vehicle and identified her through surveillance footage and license plate recognition technology.

Shantay Lashay O’Donnell, originally from Virginia Beach, Virginia, was arrested in Broome County, New York, and is expected to face multiple charges once returned to Maryland.

Authorities said those charges include first- and second-degree attempted murder tied to the shooting that occurred at a Shell gas station along Cradlerock Way.

A video circulating on social media shows O’Donnell speaking directly about the incident in the days between the shooting and her arrest.

In the recording, she acknowledges her involvement. “I’m the one that did the shooting at the gas station,” O’Donnell said.

The video was posted during the four-day period after the shooting.

In it, O’Donnell is seen sitting in a car and indicates she is aware that law enforcement is searching for her.

She also made statements about her actions and intent, saying she was “getting ready to rob something right now” and that she does not purchase items but instead takes them.

O’Donnell also referenced a motive for the shooting in the video.

“I shot that man because he has a demon spirit, and he laughed in my face, thought it was funny,” she said.

She added, “I bet he ain’t laughing now.”

Howard County Police responded to the Shell gas station at approximately 8 p.m. last Friday after receiving reports of a shooting.

Officers arrived to find a 65-year-old employee who had been shot.

The victim was transported to the Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where he remains in serious condition, according to police.

In the days following the shooting, police released a photograph and security camera footage of a suspect believed to be O’Donnell.

The footage showed a person appearing to fire a weapon, and investigators used that material to assist in identifying and locating the suspect.

O’Donnell was later located nearly 300 miles from the scene of the shooting.

The Binghamton Police Department in New York reported that officers found her in a parking lot in Johnson City, a community near the New York-Pennsylvania border.

Authorities said her vehicle was flagged through Automated License Plate Recognition technology.

According to Binghamton Police, the system identified the car as being connected to an active criminal investigation in Virginia.

Officers who encountered O’Donnell also recognized her from the surveillance images released in connection with the Columbia shooting.

That identification helped confirm her connection to the Maryland case, and information was shared with Howard County Police.

Binghamton Police took O’Donnell into custody and charged her with illegal possession of two firearms at the time of her arrest.

Officials also stated that she has multiple outstanding warrants, including one related to robbery.

Authorities said O’Donnell remains in custody in New York while arrangements are made regarding her return to Maryland and Virginia.

Howard County Police said it is not yet clear when she will be extradited to face charges in either state.

The investigation remains ongoing as officials continue coordinating between jurisdictions to pursue the charges connected to the shooting and other alleged criminal activity.
