Suspicious Package Triggers Lockdown, Medical Evaluations at Joint Base Andrews [WATCH]

Joint Base Andrews, the Maryland military installation that houses Air Force One, was briefly locked down Thursday afternoon after servicemembers discovered a suspicious package that prompted several personnel to seek medical attention, according to U.S. officials, as reported by Fox News.

Fox News reported that multiple servicemembers who encountered the package experienced headaches and were evaluated by medical staff on base. All individuals were later released in stable condition, and no hazardous materials were found at the scene.

A spokesperson for Joint Base Andrews confirmed that the area was secured while emergency responders assessed the situation. “As a precaution, the building and connecting building were evacuated, and a cordon was established around the area,” the spokesperson said.

“Joint Base Andrews first responders were dispatched to the scene, determined there were no immediate threats, and normal operations have resumed. An investigation is currently ongoing.”

Officials said several of the affected individuals were taken to Malcolm Grow Medical Center, located on the base, for evaluation. The nature of the package and what may have caused the reported symptoms have not been disclosed.

The lockdown was lifted once base officials and emergency teams determined the scene was safe. No evidence of chemical or biological agents was discovered, according to early testing.

Federal and military investigators are working to determine the source and nature of the package, though authorities have not indicated whether foul play is suspected.

Joint Base Andrews, located just outside Washington, D.C., serves as the primary military hub for transporting the president, vice president, and other senior U.S. officials.

It is home to the aircraft known as Air Force One, as well as other critical air operations that support the nation’s top leaders.

Operations at the base have since returned to normal, with security and hazardous materials teams continuing to monitor the site. The ongoing investigation will determine whether the package posed any credible threat or if the incident was accidental.
