Actress Sydney Sweeney was originally set to appear in the upcoming sequel to The Devil Wears Prada, but her cameo was ultimately removed from the final version of the film, according to a report.

The 28-year-old “Euphoria” star had fueled speculation about her involvement in The Devil Wears Prada 2 after she was seen on set in New York City during the summer of 2025. Reports at the time suggested she had filmed a brief appearance for the movie.

According to a report published by Entertainment Weekly on Tuesday, Sweeney filmed a short scene intended to appear early in the film. However, a source told the outlet that a “creative decision” was later made to remove the scene during post-production.

The reported scene featured Sweeney playing herself as a celebrity client of Emily Charlton, the character portrayed by Emily Blunt. The sequence took place at Dior’s U.S. headquarters in New York and was designed to reintroduce Charlton in her updated role.

The scene also included characters played by Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, and Stanley Tucci, who reprise their roles from the original 2006 film. According to the report, the characters seek out Charlton’s assistance and find her managing operations while styling Sweeney.

Despite filming the sequence, the insider said the creative team ultimately determined that the cameo did not fit structurally within the film. The source added that the decision was difficult and that the filmmakers appreciated Sweeney’s involvement.

Fox News Digital reported that requests for comment were sent to Sweeney and Disney, but they did not receive a response.

Speculation about Sweeney’s role first intensified in August 2025 when a woman believed to be the actress was photographed on set in Manhattan wearing a blue hoodie and sweatpants. At the time, Sweeney was also facing backlash related to a jeans campaign for American Eagle.

When asked about the sighting and her possible involvement in the sequel during a November 2025 interview, Sweeney declined to confirm the reports.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Sweeney said.

Discussion surrounding the decision to remove her cameo has continued, including commentary during an appearance on Sky News Australia’s “The Rita Panahi Show.” Commentator Kinsey Schofield suggested the move could have been influenced by factors beyond the film’s structure, while also noting the studio’s explanation.

“I suspect it has more to do with the overall rumor that Sweeney is a conservative, which is not a very popular club in Hollywood or in the fashion industry,” Schofield said.

“But the studio claims that it’s just story-related editing,” she continued. “Films get reshaped in post-production all the time, and smaller roles are usually the first to end up on the cutting room floor.”

Sweeney’s political affiliations became a topic of discussion in 2025 when public voter records indicated she had been registered with the Republican Party of Florida in Monroe County since June 2024.

In a January interview with Cosmopolitan, Sweeney addressed public speculation about her political views and labels placed on her by others.

“I’ve never been here to talk about politics. I’ve always been here to make art, so this is just not a conversation I want to be at the forefront of. And I think because of that, people want to take it even further and use me as their own pawn. But it’s somebody else assigning something to me, and I can’t control that,” Sweeney said.

“I haven’t figured it out. I’m not a hateful person. If I say, ‘That’s not true,’ they’ll come at me like, ‘You’re just saying that to look better,'” she said.

“There’s no winning. There’s never any winning. I just have to continue being who I am, because I know who I am. I can’t make everyone love me. I know what I stand for.”

Sweeney added that she does not consider herself a political figure.

“I’m not a political person. I’m in the arts. I’m not here to speak on politics. That’s not an area I’ve ever even imagined getting into,” she said.

The sequel to the 2006 film brings back key members of the original creative team, including director David Frankel, screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna, and producer Wendy Finerman.

In addition to returning cast members, the film introduces new actors such as Kenneth Branagh, Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, Simone Ashley, Rachel Bloom, B. J. Novak, and Patrick Brammall.

Additional cameo appearances include Lady Gaga, who also contributed music, along with Donatella Versace and Naomi Campbell.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 is scheduled to premiere in theaters on May 1.
