Tale of Two Terrorism Plots

The United Kingdom, for some reason I cannot quite put my finger on it, seems to be terrorism central these days. 

At least it sure seems that way, given that two terrorism-related stories hit the news this weekend, and it doesn’t take a genius to connect the dots. 

No doubt you have heard about the more prominent story that hit the news yesterday and is still playing out today. The police barely stopped a terrorist attack at RAF Fairford Base, where US bombers are based in the war against Iran. Earlier this year, Iran had made clear that they view any bases and countries from which the US make strikes inside Iran as fair game, and as of now the presumption is that this could be related.

We don’t yet know all the details, and the presumption could prove wrong, but the chain of events and reasoning that led to the attack being thwarted are clear: a local resident saw three vans with “Middle Eastern”- looking men acting suspiciously and called the police after they left the area. 

In other words, she committed an act that, had she been wrong, would have landed her in jail in the UK, because it was “racist.”

Confused, she turned her car around. As she did so, she saw a group of masked men in balaclavas scattering into the trees and across the fields towards RAF Fairford, located only a few hundred metres away.

She drove off and called the police. When she stopped, she also messaged her local WhatsApp group and warned neighbours to lock their doors.

Less than 25 minutes later, the men had been arrested. Video footage recorded by a villager shows five men, shirtless, sitting on the ground in handcuffs in the middle of a road, surrounded by counter-terror police.

Armed police officers began going door to door and a few hours later a large cordon was in place, roadblocks were set up across the area, and the entire community had been forced to evacuate as army bomb disposal units investigated the suspicious vans.

I’m only half-joking about that. She made a judgment, partially, and quite correctly, based on the racial mix of the people, for some strange reason associating “Middle Eastern” with “dangerous,” and that is a very big no-no in the United Kingdom. 

She said the vans struck her as being suspicious from the moment she saw them, as a phone number and lettering on the back of the vehicles appeared to be fake.

She said: “I just thought what the hell are they doing… I saw a group of Middle Eastern-looking young guys running off through the trees. Some of them had masks or balaclavas on, and they all scattered ahead of us as we drove back past.

“Some of them ran into the fields, and some of them turned to run towards the air base. We realised this was something pretty serious. We knew the air base had a credible threat of a terrorist attack before last night. So as soon as I saw them I was worried.

“I mean, you don’t see masked men running around at half one in the morning in the countryside near a secure air base and not have concerns.”

It’s very important that Muslims be made to feel very welcome in the UK, presumably because they will soon become the new overlords or something. 

In fact, the British government is so determined to go out of its way to make Islamists feel at home that they are extending citizenship to terrorists and just assuming that they will become productive citizens, because diversity is our strength.

It will take in known terrorists, give them new identities and legal anonymity, and allow them to plot terror attacks. When the Sunday Times reported on the story, they were still required by law to call him “Mr. X,” despite the fact that they can quote other sources who identified him. The government is very serious about ensuring that its laws against saying bad things about terrorists are upheld. 

A former bodyguard to the leader of Hamas secured asylum and citizenship in Britain before “plotting” a terrorist attack against Jews in Europe before the second anniversary of the October 7 massacre.

Mr X, who cannot be named for legal reasons, served in the personal security team of Ismail Haniyeh, who was then the leader of Hamas in Gaza and later chairman of its political bureau, before moving to the UK more than a decade ago.

At the time he was awarded refugee status, it was public knowledge that he had worked for Haniyeh, was the son of another senior Hamas official, and had been arrested in Egypt for operating a tunnel allegedly used to smuggle firearms and gold into Gaza.

Yet Mr X was granted sanctuary and apparently able to operate under deep cover as an IT consultant living in the suburbs of a large English city.

The married father, in his forties, changed his legal name more than once and is not thought to have been a priority for the British security services as he began co-ordinating with Hamas terrorists on the Continent.

Let that sink in. Roll it around in your mind for a minute. The British government gave this man asylum, a new identity, set him up with a job, and then just…ignored him, despite knowing that he was a terrorist.

It was German and Israeli intelligence that tracked him down for helping plan and stockpile weapons for terrorist attacks in Germany. The UK security services were unaware because they didn’t care. 

Today, he faces extradition to Germany where he is accused of being a leading figure in a plot to attack Jewish community centres, Israeli diplomats and pro-Israel demonstrations there or in neighbouring Austria last October.

National Crime Agency (NCA) officers arrested Mr X in central London last November after Mossad and Germany’s security and intelligence services learnt of the planned attack. Berlin worked with partners in Austria, Denmark and the UK to detain seven suspects and gather weapons including an AK47 assault rifle. Mr X is accused of transporting weapons including handguns and live ammunition to a storage facility in Vienna, according to a German indictment.

Still, the Home Office is upping its game, importing more Middle Easterners every year because the UK is not diverse enough, and hence not yet strong enough.
