Minnesota Governor Tim Walz said during an interview on Meet the Press that Vice President Kamala Harris would be a strong Democratic candidate in the 2028 presidential race, as reported by The Gateway Pundit.

Walz also criticized President Donald Trump’s decision to close Venezuelan airspace, calling the action “reckless” and saying Americans should “be concerned.”

President Donald Trump delivered a special commencement address to University of Alabama graduates on May 1, 2025.

Walz made the comments Sunday while discussing foreign-policy decisions and the future of Democratic leadership. He argued that the closure of Venezuelan airspace reflected behavior he described as “incapable of doing the job.”

His remarks followed reporting by the Gateway Pundit highlighting his criticism of President Trump’s move.

Walz also responded to questions about Harris’s political viability. NBC host Kristen Welker asked whether he still believed Harris was the strongest option for Democrats in 2028.

Walz said Harris “makes life affordable,” “brings people in,” and supports the party’s “inclusive vision.”

In the same interview, Walz defended Harris’s record. Harris was tasked in 2021 with overseeing border-migration coordination.

The segment noted that illegal-border encounters reached high levels during that period, fentanyl trafficking increased, and several cities issued emergency declarations in response to migrant surges.

Walz did not address those issues during his Meet the Press appearance.

The Gateway Pundit report added that Harris was presented by Walz as a stabilizing figure, even as critics pointed to the results of federal actions under her portfolio.

The segment also referenced Harris’s own writing describing concerns about President Joe Biden’s condition in 2024 as “recklessness” on the part of those who allowed him to continue.

Democratic vice presidential nominee and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz makes a campaign stop at the Mesa Convention Center on Sept. 10, 2024.

Walz additionally responded to criticism of Biden’s performance by saying attacks on him reflected “ageism” and “ableism.”

The interview also revisited broader political comparisons between the Trump administration and Democratic leadership ahead of the 2028 election cycle.

The discussion aired as national attention continued to focus on foreign-policy decisions, border enforcement, and the positioning of prospective presidential candidates.
