Well, this IS a dreary note to end the weekend on, but it’s just another railroad spike in the putrid carcass of Sir Keir Starmer’s legacy as Prime Minister.
Mercifully brief as his time was, the damage done was already inestimable with what was visible, and I can only…okay, I’d rather not try to imagine what disasters will befall the British people as more of his perfidious machinations, public and done secretively, bear their noxious fruit in ways no one could imagine or saw coming.
Like his deal with Gibraltar – the one where he practically gave the entire rock in all but name only?
TO THE SPANISH
At the end of this past February, I told you all about a nasty little surprise the PM had sprung on his citizens, who have always considered Gibraltar to be a lovely vacation spot and a beautiful part of what was left from British better days. Mediterranean, but still so much like home.
Like going to Florida beaches for us, a British citizen shivering in London could just jump a flight and be warm in a little over an hour, no passport required, because it was British.
ALAS
…The Rock, standing for eons athwart the entrance to the Mediterranean, and ceded to the British crown in 1713 by the Treaty of Utrecht, the tiny colony has withstood invasion and weather for centuries as a proud British territory, rebuffing Spanish attempts to reacquire it that continue to this day.
When Britain left the EU, Gibraltar went with her.
This has proved irksome to both Spaniards and, apparently, the British prime minister. What he negotiated last spring was billed as a sort of reasonable accommodation to tend to EU sensibilities amid his questionable reworking of the Brexit border deal.
What would* happen when it was all said and done, Starmer explained, was that the formerly hassle-free travel of Brits to their own territory would now be controlled by Spanish border guards who would check passports and control entry points to the British territory.
If British citizens could not meet the new, onerous SPANISH requirements agreed to by the British prime minister, they could be denied entry to visit their very own rock.
Everything Starmer does is by stealth. Everything Starmer has done has been at the detriment of the UK and endemic Brits. The sooner the public realise it the better but they are leaving it late.

What I’d forgotten until I saw this Winston Marshall Xweet just now was that the agreement also meant that all the British border guards and customs agents, etc, were pulled from the British Rock.
And on July 15th – Labour agreed a new UK-EU treaty removing all routine immigration checks and the physical border fence at the land frontier between Spain and Gibraltar.

Now, granted, I have a vivid imagination. But it doesn’t really take one to visualize what happens next as those ferries loaded with North Africans by the tens of thousands come across that short stretch (10 clicks or so) of open water, possibly dock at the closest harbor, which is *checks maps* Gibraltar…
…to disgorge its teeming mass of human cargo.
Then go back for more.
And more.
And more.
It’s easy to visualize hundreds, if not a couple of thousand, of Ahmeds swarming to the top to point across and say, ‘I can see my hut from here.’
Then make their way merrily down the slope to rummage through the hotels and cafes for something to eat.
Just like they’re doing in Ceuta right now. Or did – I doubt there’s much left.
Of course there will be those tender hearts who welcome them, as there was in Ceuta…

…but I imagine the bulk of the populace, especially the British citizens, will be concerned.
There is a smallish British garrison still on station at Gibraltar and an airbase.
Good luck to them.
I sure hope someone told them the ferries were running.
