President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt will leave her post at the end of August, closing a highly visible chapter in the administration’s communications operation.

Leavitt may be leaving the daily grind of the White House briefing room, but she is not leaving Trump’s political operation.

Instead, the president is positioning her as a leading outside adviser ahead of the critical 2026 midterm elections.

“Karoline will now be one of my top outside advisors, and an influential voice within the Republican Party, as we work to defy History, and conclusively win the Midterm Elections,” Trump wrote.
