Former campaign advisor David Urban praised President Donald Trump so effusively on CNN Monday night that former Obama administration official Van Jones said he was struggling to avoid throwing up on the air.
Trump has made comments about running for President in the 2028 election, despite the 22nd Amendment prohibiting a person from being elected for more than two terms. “Anderson Cooper 360” host Anderson Cooper asked Urban if he’d purchased any Trump 2028 merchandise. “Listen, I noticed I’m the only one smiling. Van’s crying over there in the corner. I see him — like, Alyssa’s sick to her stomach. I’m the only one laughing,” Urban said, before former Trump administration official Alyssa Farah Griffin reminded him about her pregnancy.

“As Alyssa correctly points out, you know, Steve Bannon mysteriously talks about, ‘We’ve got this plan.’ I don’t know what kind of plan you could have,” Urban said. “I mean, you either amend the Constitution, right? You could challenge it in court, as you say, Toobin says correctly. You know, the law, the Constitution is what the justices say it is. But it seems pretty clear. And Trump himself seems to, you know, on Air Force One, on the flight, you know, points to the — the rivalry which he is creating between Marco Rubio in that video right there, the rivalry he is creating between [Secretary of State] Marco Rubio and his Vice President J.D. [Vance].”
Vance is currently the front-runner for the Republican nomination for president in the 2028 election, receiving 47% support compared to 10.3% for Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida and 9.3% support for Rubio, according to the RealClearPolling average of polls from May 13 to Sept. 16.
“He’s always said, ‘Look, Rubio is really great. He’d be great. Oh, maybe. And J.D. is great too. They’d both be great. I don’t know who would get in a primary. Maybe they should run together, right?’ I mean, he’s kind of teasing a primary between the two of those guys,” Urban said. “And listen, let no one be fooled to think that Donald Trump is going anywhere. He may not be president, but he’s going to be sitting at Bedminster or in Palm Beach.”
“Can you imagine if you are President J.D. Vance and every day you wake up to a slew of Truth Social posts and tweets about Donald Trump reviewing your performance from the night before?” Urban continued. “Trump will remain large on the stage in American politics and global politics until he does not remain anymore. I mean, the guy is the Colossus at Rhodes and will remain that way.”
The Colossus of Rhodes, one of the “Seven Wonders of the Ancient World,” was a giant statue of the Greek god Helios built on the island of Rhodes, now present-day Greece, in 282 B.C. to commemorate the siege of the island, according to Britannica. Cooper asked Jones about Urban’s comparison.
“I’m sorry, I’m trying not to vomit on the air,” Jones responded.
