One person was struck after a U-Haul truck drove through a crowd during a protest in Los Angeles supporting anti-regime demonstrators in Iran, authorities confirmed Sunday.

The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody as police continued to investigate the incident.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the incident occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m. along Veteran Avenue near the Federal Building in the Westwood neighborhood.

“At approximately 1530 hours, the driver of a U-Haul truck collided with individuals marching along Veteran Avenue in the area of the Federal Building,” LAPD said in a statement.

Police said the driver, described as an adult male, was detained at the scene pending further investigation. Authorities did not immediately release the driver’s identity.

“At this time, one person was confirmed struck by the vehicle (an adult male); however, no significant injuries have been reported,” LAPD said.

“A Rescue Ambulance treated the individual at the scene. No one has been transported to the hospital for medical treatment.”

This Could Be the Most Important Video Gun Owners Watch All Year

Hundreds of people had gathered in the Westwood area as part of a march in support of protesters in Iran, according to NBC4 Los Angeles.

The demonstration took place near the Federal Building, drawing a large crowd that filled portions of Veteran Avenue.

Videos circulating on social media appeared to show a U-Haul truck moving quickly through a dense crowd as people screamed and attempted to get out of the way.

In one video, a person appeared to cling to the side of the vehicle while banging on a window as the truck continued forward.

Images and video from the scene also showed banners displayed on the side of the truck.

One banner read, in all capital letters, “NO SHAH. NO REGIME. USA: DON’T REPEAT 1953. NO MULLAH.” Another banner on the vehicle was written in a foreign language.

Additional video footage appeared to show several people confronting the driver after the truck came to a stop.

According to NBC4 Los Angeles, individuals could be seen punching the driver while attempting to pull him from the vehicle.

The truck’s windows were also smashed during the confrontation.

LAPD has not announced whether charges will be filed, and investigators have not said what led the truck to move through the crowd.

Authorities have stated that the investigation is ongoing.

The demonstration in Los Angeles was part of a broader series of protests tied to ongoing unrest in Iran.

According to reports cited by organizers, demonstrations in Iran initially began over economic grievances before spreading across the country.

The protests have since evolved into a direct challenge to Iran’s clerical leadership.

The U.S.-based Human Rights Activists News Agency has reported that 583 people have been killed since unrest erupted in Iran two weeks ago.

Those figures have been cited by protest organizers and advocacy groups during demonstrations outside Iran.

Solidarity protests with Iranian demonstrators have also taken place outside the United States.

Demonstrations have emerged in major European cities, including Paris and Berlin, according to reports.

A separate protest in support of Iranian demonstrators also occurred outside the White House in Washington, D.C.

Authorities in Los Angeles said they are continuing to review video evidence and witness statements related to Sunday’s incident.

Police have not provided additional details about the circumstances leading up to the collision or the actions of the driver prior to being detained.

The LAPD said it would release more information as the investigation continues.
