A fan was ejected from a WNBA game on Sunday after allegedly mocking a player whose wig fell off during live play, leading to an unusual delay on the court, as reported by Breitbart.

The incident occurred during the third quarter of a matchup between the Phoenix Mercury and Washington Mystics at Entertainment and Sports Arena. Mercury guard Kahleah Copper lost her wig following contact with Mystics player Jade Melbourne.

The collision appeared to occur during a screen play, causing Copper’s hairpiece to dislodge and fall to the court.

Broadcast footage showed Copper quickly sprinting off the court and into the locker room.

The game was halted for several minutes. According to audio picked up from mic’d officials, referees and players could be heard discussing a fan who allegedly shouted at Copper after the incident.

Members of the Mercury reportedly heard the fan’s remarks and alerted arena security. Officials then identified the individual and had them escorted out of the venue.

The moment quickly circulated online, with clips of the wig mishap and subsequent fan removal going viral. On X, users posted commentary, many using the nickname “Hair Jordan” in reference to the incident.

The league has not released a formal statement on the situation. It is unclear what exactly was said by the ejected fan or whether any disciplinary action will follow.

The unusual sequence came during a period when the WNBA is without its two highest-profile players, Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever and Angel Reese of the Chicago Sky, who are both sidelined due to injuries.

With the absence of Clark and Reese drawing concern over ratings and overall visibility, the on-court episode involving Copper became a focal point for discussion among fans and critics.

I’m surprised they don’t pause the game every 15 minutes so someone can pee.

Some commentators noted that the situation reflected poorly on the league’s presentation and its ongoing struggles to sustain consistent viewership without its biggest stars.

Copper eventually returned to the game. The Phoenix Mercury went on to win the contest.
