Minnesota Mayor Drops a New Nickname for Tim Walz [WATCH]

An exchange between Fox News correspondent Griff Jenkins and Lexington, Minnesota Mayor Mike Murphy centered on growing frustration among local officials who say state leadership has failed to engage with them while imposing policies that strain city budgets and essential services.

Jenkins asked Murphy whether there had been any response from Gov. Tim Walz following a recent letter raising concerns about state policy.

“Has been the reaction to this letter? Have you heard from Governor walls? Has he invited you to participate in dialog, to perhaps have a face to face visit?” Jenkins asked.

Murphy said there has been no outreach from the governor and suggested that silence reflects an avoidance of accountability.

“No, unfortunately, Tim Walz hasn’t reached out to us at all, and I don’t anticipate him doing so, because that just means it’s just another level of accountability for Tim Walz,” Murphy said.

Murphy went on to describe how the governor is being viewed by some local officials across the state.

“And you know, there’s a little nickname for him going around Minnesota. He’s the fraud father, and that’s exactly what it is,” Murphy said.

He stressed that his criticism was not intended to be partisan but focused on the real-world impact of state policies on local communities.

“And I’m not trying to make this sound partisan at all, Griff, but at the end of the day, if you look at Democrat ran cities, this is exactly the policies that they support,” Murphy said.

“And this is the reason why cities like mine and Jimmy is here or are suffering because of these unfunded mandates.”

Murphy said local governments are being forced to shoulder responsibilities without adequate financial support from the state, even as government assistance declines.

“And at the end of the day, Griff, we’re the ones fixing the roads, and we’re the ones picking up the phone when you call 911, and we’re offering essential services to our communities,” he said.

According to Murphy, the cumulative effect of these policies is placing cities under severe strain.

“And these unfunded mandates, this fraud and the shrinking government assistance to the cities,” he said,

“It’s killing us.”
