The shooting occurred at the Meyers’ residence in Lafayette, where authorities say both victims were struck by gunfire through their front door.
Judge Meyer, 66, was shot in the arm, while his wife was shot in the hip, according to police. Both were transported to a local hospital, where they remain hospitalized and recovering from their injuries.

According to police and court records reviewed by the Journal & Courier, no official motive has been released.
However, investigators noted that Moss currently has an active felony case in Judge Meyer’s court involving nine charges, including domestic violence, intimidation, and being a violent felon in possession of a weapon.
A recording of 911 dispatch audio revealed that a caller reported someone knocked on the couple’s door and claimed to have their dog. Moments later, a shot was fired through the door, striking both victims.
Moss, Ferguson, and Smith were each arrested on charges including attempted murder, aggravated battery, and intimidation with a deadly weapon.
Police said those charges include gang and firearm enhancements. Authorities also identified Moss and Smith as habitual offenders.
Milsap was charged with bribery and obstruction of justice, while Greer faces charges of assisting a criminal and obstruction of justice, according to police.
Had an inkling that the shooting of Judge Meyer was related to his role as a judge.

“These arrests are the result of a comprehensive, collaborative effort among multiple agencies,” the Lafayette Police Department said in a statement.
Law enforcement officials stated there were no recorded incidents of previous threats against Judge Meyer and no prior 911 calls originating from his residence before the shooting.
Despite the attack, Judge Meyer said he intends to continue serving on the bench and emphasized his commitment to the judicial system.
“This horrific violence will not shake my belief in the importance of peacefully resolving disputes,” Meyer said. “I remain confident we have the best judicial system in the world, and I am proud to be a part of it.”
The investigation remains ongoing as prosecutors prepare to move forward with the cases against the five suspects.
