President Donald Trump sharply criticized Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) this week as tensions between the two Republicans continue to escalate ahead of Trump’s visit to Kentucky, as reported by The New York Post.
Trump issued the criticism in a post on Truth Social while preparing for a trip to the state where Massie represents Kentucky’s 4th Congressional District.
“I predict that ‘Representative’ Thomas Massie will go down as the WORST Republican Congressman in the long and fabled history of the United States Congress,” Trump wrote.

The president went further, comparing Massie unfavorably to other Republicans who have previously clashed with him.
“Even worse than Crazy Liz Chaney [sic], Cryin’ Adam Kinzinger, and Marjorie ‘Traitor’ Brown (Remember, Green turns to Brown under stress!). They are all misfits and losers, but Massie, who is running against a great American Patriot in the Kentucky Primary, will hopefully lose BIG.”
The dispute highlights a growing rift between Trump and Massie, who has frequently broken with the administration and Republican leadership on key votes in Congress.

Massie has opposed several major Republican-backed measures, including the One Big Beautiful Bill Act and a series of government funding bills.
He has also been an outspoken supporter of legislation related to the Epstein Files Transparency Act.
Because House Republicans currently hold a narrow majority, Massie’s refusal to support certain votes has created complications for GOP leadership attempting to move legislation through the chamber.
Trump allies have responded by backing a primary challenger to Massie in the upcoming Republican primary.
Trump advisers Chris LaCivita and Tony Fabrizio helped launch the Kentucky MAGA Super PAC, which has made defeating Massie a central goal in the May 19 primary election.
Trump and his political allies are supporting former Navy SEAL Ed Gallrein in the race against Massie.
Massie has also drawn support from Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), who has himself had a complicated relationship with Trump in the past.
In response to the president’s criticism, Massie appeared to turn the feud into a fundraising opportunity.
“I predict ‘President’ DJT will begrudgingly sign my beautiful Epstein Files Transparency Act, causing beleaguered princes and ambassadors and prime ministers and CEOs around the world to be arrested or resign in total shame,” Massie wrote on X Wednesday while including a fundraising link.
He then added another remark referencing the same legislation.
“Oh, wait, that already happened.”

Trump is scheduled to travel to Kentucky on Wednesday, including a visit to a packaging facility in Hebron.
The president is also expected to hold an additional event in the greater Cincinnati area in neighboring Ohio later the same day.
Massie is not expected to attend the event during Trump’s visit.
According to his campaign, the congressman has a “previously scheduled official event” and will not be present during the president’s stop in the region.
Behind the scenes, frustration with Massie has also been expressed by other Republicans in Washington.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and members of the Republican leadership team have reportedly voiced concerns about Massie’s willingness to oppose party priorities.
On particularly close votes, Republican leadership has at times assumed they will not be able to persuade Massie to support legislation.
A senior administration official previously described the situation while speaking about Massie’s role in congressional negotiations.
“You can have differences, but you have to be constructive. He is not constructive. In fact, he’s the Democrats’ favorite member,” the official said.
With the Republican primary approaching in May, the dispute between Trump and Massie is likely to remain a focal point in Kentucky politics in the coming months.
