It took authorities an entire day to track him down after he reportedly hid at a relative’s house.

When located, the man turned himself in to investigators. So far, no criminal charges have been filed, though questions continue to circle around his actions in the aftermath of the fiery chaos.

Adding to the controversy, a review of federal records by Channel 2 revealed that the Illinois based trucking company responsible for the vehicle, MGM Worldwide Logistics, has been connected to no fewer than 12 other crashes in the past two years.

The company’s owner spoke briefly by phone to Channel 2’s Michael Seiden, insisting the driver was in shock and not attempting to escape criminal responsibility.

“He walked to a relative’s home and later turned himself in,” the owner said, pushing back against the idea that the driver was deliberately running from the law.

Still, residents near the crash site are expressing their disbelief at how anyone could have survived the initial impact, much less walked away.

“I don’t see how he would get out of there. I just don’t see it,” neighbor Henry Burton told reporters, shaking his head in astonishment.

The scene has since been cleared, but scorched marks on the ground and twisted rail fragments remain as evidence of just how intense the collision was.
