Nevada Jury Convicts Duane Keffe D Davis of First-Degree Murder in Tupac Shakur Case [WATCH]

A Nevada jury on Monday found Duane “Keffe D” Davis guilty of first-degree murder with the use of a deadly weapon in the 1996 killing of rap icon Tupac Shakur, as reported by Fox News.

The verdict marked the first conviction in the case, which remained unresolved for nearly 30 years.

Davis, 63, could face life in prison following the decision, according to The Associated Press. He was ordered held without bail while awaiting sentencing, which is scheduled for Oct. 13.

Nearly 30 years later, Tupac Shakur’s murder finally has a conviction.

Jurors reached their decision after about three hours of deliberations. Their discussions began following closing arguments in the closely watched murder trial.

The 16-member panel included four alternates.

Over nine days of testimony, jurors heard from 24 prosecution witnesses and three defense witnesses before considering the competing accounts presented by both sides.

Shakur’s sister, Sekyiwa “Set” Shakur, cried after the verdict was announced in court. At the same time, Davis’ son covered his face with one hand as the jury’s decision was read.

During closing arguments, prosecutor Binu Palal told jurors that Davis obtained a gun before pursuing Shakur and Marion “Suge” Knight.

According to The Associated Press, Palal said Davis “went hunting” for the two men after they attacked Davis’ nephew.

The prosecutor also focused on Davis’ own accounts of what happened that night. Palal said Davis consistently placed himself inside the Cadillac that was used during the shooting.

Defense attorney Michael Sanft challenged the prosecution’s case during his closing argument.

He maintained that no evidence other than Davis’ statements placed Davis in Las Vegas or inside the vehicle connected to the fatal shooting.

The case centered on the Sept. 7, 1996, attack on the Las Vegas Strip. A gunman inside a white Cadillac opened fire on a BMW carrying Shakur and Knight.

Knight suffered minor injuries in the shooting and recovered. Shakur was critically wounded and succumbed to his injuries six days later at 25 years old.

The trial took place at Clark County District Court at the Regional Justice Center in Las Vegas.

Davis stood in court during a break in closing arguments on Aug. 31, 2026, as the proceedings moved toward jury deliberations.

Evidence displayed during the trial included a 1996 photograph showing Shakur and Knight together. The image was presented during proceedings on Aug. 17, 2026, at the Regional Justice Center.

The prosecution’s presentation relied on witnesses as well as Davis’ statements about the shooting and his presence in the Cadillac.

The defense countered that those statements were not supported by additional evidence placing him at the scene or in the car.

After hearing nine days of testimony and the final arguments from both sides, jurors deliberated for approximately three hours.

They ultimately convicted Davis of first-degree murder with the use of a deadly weapon.

The guilty verdict brought a decisive courtroom result in the case surrounding one of the music world’s most closely watched killings.

Davis became the first person convicted in Shakur’s 1996 shooting death, according to The Associated Press.

With the verdict delivered, Davis remains in custody without bail pending his sentencing hearing. The potential sentence could be life in prison when he returns to court on Oct. 13.
