PA Dem Candidate Condemns Voter ID, Then Demands It at His Own Campaign Event [WATCH]

Pennsylvania Democrat congressional nominee Bob Brooks opposes voter identification requirements for elections, but his campaign apparently has a different standard when controlling admission to its own events.

Brooks required attendees to present identification, and campaign staff reportedly denied entry to at least one person seeking to attend.

The episode offers voters another striking example of Democrat hypocrisy surrounding basic election security.

Identification is portrayed as sinister when citizens cast ballots, yet it suddenly becomes reasonable when Democrat campaigns want to know exactly who is entering the room.

Brooks is running in Pennsylvania’s 7th Congressional District, where he hopes to unseat Republican Rep. Ryan Mackenzie.

The district is expected to host one of the most closely watched and competitive House contests of the 2026 election cycle.

The Democrat nominee has collected endorsements from Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont and former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.

Those endorsements place Brooks firmly inside the national progressive operation, even as he attempts to appeal to Pennsylvania voters concerned about costs, public safety, and election integrity.

Brooks previously told The Morning Call that he opposed the SAVE Act and other policies he characterized as restrictions on voting rights.

He also accused President Donald Trump and congressional Republicans of spreading falsehoods about elections while failing to address rising household expenses.

That lofty rhetoric apparently stopped at the campaign event entrance.

Brooks’s own team required identification from attendees, proving that asking people to establish who they are is perfectly acceptable when the political class believes it serves its interests.

National Republican Congressional Committee spokesman Reilly Richardson delivered a blistering response to the contradiction.

“Scumbag Bob Brooks doesn’t care about who votes in our elections but has no problem requiring ID to attend his ritzy campaign events,” Richardson told Breitbart News.

Richardson added, “Pennsylvania voters will hold Brooks accountable for his hypocrisy.”

The message cuts directly to the issue facing Brooks, since ordinary voters are unlikely to miss a double standard this obvious.

Brooks has already faced an embarrassing campaign moment involving Buttigieg.

Video from a March interview spread widely in May after Republican National Committee researchers posted footage suggesting the two Democrats were being coached on how to appear authentic.

Before the interview, Buttigieg could be heard asking, “Remind me the district number again? 7?”

Nothing says deep commitment to Pennsylvania voters quite like needing a last second reminder about the congressional district your endorsed candidate wants to represent.

Mackenzie also went after Brooks during remarks at the 2026 Republican Convention.

He described his challenger as a radical selected by Democrat power brokers, declaring, “That’s right, Bob Brooks was handpicked by the Democratic establishment.”

The Republican incumbent further accused Brooks of taking more than $160,000 from members of his own family and refusing to repay the money.

Mackenzie also criticized Brooks over past remarks involving police officers and volunteer firefighters, finishing his attack with, “That’s what crazy looks like.”

Mackenzie argued that Brooks would serve establishment Democrats and progressive donors rather than working families in Pennsylvania.

He also warned that Brooks would seek to repeal the Working Families Tax Cuts, opening the door to higher taxes and a return to the border policies that voters rejected.

Brooks is hardly alone among Democrats who demand identification in politically convenient settings while opposing it at the ballot box.

Former North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper required campaign event attendees to show identification matching an RSVP list after previously vetoing voter identification legislation.

Georgia Sen. Jon Ossoff similarly required government issued identification at a February campaign rally despite opposing the SAVE Act.

New York City under Mayor Zohran Mamdani also required multiple forms of identification from applicants seeking paid emergency snow shoveling work while Democrat leaders resisted voter identification rules.

President Trump addressed that contradiction during the Republican midterm convention in Dallas.

“The only reason they’re fighting us is because they wanna cheat. There’s no other reason,” Trump said, adding, “They come up with more excuses.”

For Brooks, the campaign event controversy strips away the usual Democrat talking points and leaves a simple question.
