WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
  • Angela Paxton urged conservatives to support the entire Republican ticket on November 3rd.
  • Her estranged husband, Ken Paxton, is the Republican U.S. Senate nominee against Democrat James Talarico.
  • Angela Paxton argued that preserving Republican control matters more than anger toward an individual candidate.
  • CNN reported that spending by groups aligned with the GOP could exceed $300 million.

Texas State Senator Angela Paxton is delivering a blunt message to Republican voters ahead of November. Whatever disagreements they may have with particular candidates, she wants them to support the Republican ticket.

Her appeal carries unusual political weight because her estranged husband, Ken Paxton, is the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate. He is running against Democrat State Rep. James Talarico.

The 30 second advertisement was released Saturday by Texas PAC and highlighted by AdImpact Politics. Angela Paxton does not mention Ken Paxton by name, but her argument leaves little mystery about her position.

“I’m Texas Senator Angela Paxton. People have asked my thoughts about this election and turns out, I have some,” she says while looking directly into the camera.

“Let’s talk about the elephant in the room. In a general election, it’s not as much about the individual players on the team.”

“It’s about getting the whole team across the finish line. Either we hold every Republican seat, or we hand the future of Texas to the other team.”

“That’s why I’m voting for the Republican ticket on November 3rd. Let’s hold the line together.”

The message echoes comments Angela Paxton made on September 18 to the Texas Federation of Republican Women. Her speech carried the fitting title “The Elephant in the Room.”

According to the Texas Tribune, she argued that preserving Republican control of the seat was more important than anger directed at a particular candidate. Her case was focused squarely on political power and the future of Texas.

“Because we have more control over that seat and the future when we control the seat, when it’s still in the family, even if we’re mad at them.” She also warned that losing the seat to the opposing team would make the changes conservatives want impossible.

Angela Paxton announced her divorce filing on July 10, 2025, after 38 years of marriage. “I believe marriage is a sacred covenant and I have earnestly pursued reconciliation,” she wrote on X.

“But in light of recent discoveries, I do not believe that it honors God or is loving to myself, my children, or Ken to remain in the marriage.” Her petition cited adultery, while Ken Paxton’s legal team denied the allegations.

The couple had already been living separately. Yet Angela Paxton’s latest message makes clear that the personal rupture has not persuaded her to hand a Senate seat to Democrats.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee moved quickly after the divorce announcement, issuing a statement criticizing Ken Paxton. The committee had already endorsed Cornyn over Paxton, whom President Trump backed.

That effort failed to stop Paxton. He defeated Cornyn in the May runoff and secured the Republican nomination, leaving Democrats and their media allies to continue focusing heavily on his marriage.

The latest spectacle is hardly the first attempt by the Texas political establishment to bury Paxton. In 2023, the Texas House under Dade Phelan impeached him in a proceeding centered partly on an extramarital affair and allegations that the outlet said his accusers could not support with evidence.

The Texas Senate acquitted Paxton on all 16 articles. Angela Paxton recused herself from the trial rather than participating in the proceedings involving her husband.

After the acquittal, Ken Paxton thanked “my amazing wife Angela,” describing her as “a brave woman of deep faith, unquestionable integrity, and the light of our entire family.”

Trump endorsed Paxton over Cornyn and has promised rallies on his behalf. At the RNC’s midterm convention in Dallas last month, Paxton framed the Texas contest as a battle with national consequences.

“If we lose Texas, we lose the Common Sense Revolution. If we lose the Common Sense Revolution, we lose America.”

Texas has not elected a Democrat to the U.S. Senate since 1988, while Trump carried the state by nearly 14 points in 2024. Public polls dismissed by the outlet as shams have nevertheless shown Talarico competitive.

Republican organizations are treating the contest as a political firewall rather than taking the state for granted. CNN reported that spending by groups aligned with the GOP is on pace to blow past $300 million.

Angela Paxton’s pitch strips the decision down to its partisan core. Voters can remain angry at an individual Republican, she argues, while still recognizing that surrendering the seat would give the opposing team control over Texas and its future.
