Austin Shooting Suspect Dispells Gun Control Myths

The biggest myth out there about gun control is that it works. The fact that there are so many “studies” that twist reality to reach a predetermined conclusion simply makes it harder for people to accept that the mythology is just that, mythology.

But time and time again, we see examples of people who can’t get guns lawfully getting them just the same. It’s an entire thing, and just as gun grabbers claim that the problem is that they didn’t restrict hard enough, the reality is that it’ll never be enough for them.

Ever.

Over this past weekend, in Austin, Texas, there were a series of shootings.

For anti-gunners, this is proof that Texas’s gun laws are too lenient.

In reality, gun control’s failure was a bigger factor. A much, much bigger factor.

A 17-year-old suspect involved in the shooting spree in Austin over the weekend made his first court appearance. During the hearing, he was formally identified and faced six felony charges. It was also revealed that he is an illegal alien and is now subject to an immigration hold.

Cristian Mondragon-Fajardo, 17, faced a judge Tuesday for the first time since his arrest in the May 16-17 shooting spree – and the hearing revealed more than just charges. He has no bond, is not a U.S. citizen, carries an ICE hold, and was already on juvenile probation with an active detainer at the time of the shooting spree.

The Austin Police Department (APD) arrested Mondragon along with two other suspects, ages 16 and 15. Because the younger two remain juveniles under Texas law, APD is limited in what information can be publicly released regarding their identities and jail status. However, both co-defendants are described as Hispanic males.

Mondragon faces multiple charges, including multiple counts related to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault with a motor vehicle, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, theft of a firearm, evading arrest, and other related offenses. Additional charges may be filed as investigators continue reviewing evidence before his trial date.

As previously reported by The Dallas Express, the trio is accused of carrying out at least 12 shootings across Austin over 19 hours, injuring four people – one critically – while stealing at least five cars and shooting at two Austin Fire Department stations.

Additionally, it appears that this trio stole at least a gun used in the spree from Michael Cargill, owner of Central Texas Gun Works, and the defendent in Cargill v. Garland, the case challenging the ATF’s bump stock ban.

So we’ve got a repeat juvenile offender who is also an illegal alien, running with other juveniles, conducting a crime rampage throughout the city of Austin, and not a single action involving the firearm was lawful since Cargill entered the firearm into his own books.

How is gun control going to stop gun thefts? How can we keep guns out of the hands of criminals when juveniles are willing to break the law to get a firearm in the first place?

The short answer is that you can’t.

The gun control mythology exists solely under the idea that if you can prevent lawful sales, criminals can’t access firearms, but so long as there are any lawful sales anywhere, there will be gun stores that will be the targets for these criminals. The people who own them will be targets. The very idea that you can stop illegal acquisition of a firearm when there’s any chance of the lawful acquisition of one is bonkers.

And, I believe that’s the point. They know it and they want to make it impossible for anyone to get a gun lawfully under the misguided belief that it will somehow stop so-called gun crime.

Unfortunately for them, where there’s a will, there’s a way.

That’s why a 17-year-old illegal alien with an ICE detainer and a juvenile probation officer got a gun and shot up the most progressive city in Texas.
