Bill Maher is probably one of the more respected names in political commentary these days. While the comedian turned host has never pretended to be anything but a liberal, he’s clearly one of the sane ones and one who is willing to call out his own side when they get stupid. I don’t always agree with him, but he’s not someone I’m willing to dismiss out of hand, either. He’s the guy on the left I’m most interested in sitting down and having a bourbon with.

And his latest case of calling his own side out involves guns and one Luigi Mangione.

That’s right, he’s seeing the hypocrisy of the side that wants to screw with what 3D printers can produce, celebrating the guy who murdered a man he never met in cold blood with a 3D-printed gun.

Bill Maher used his closing monologue on Friday’s edition of HBO’s “Real Time” to skewer what he called a contradiction at the heart of the American left: a former devotion to gun control now colliding with the celebrity treatment afforded to accused killer Luigi Mangione.

“It seems like five minutes ago when one of the big causes of the left was gun control, but now guns are the answer?” Mr. Maher said during the segment. “I guess. Because Luigi is a f—-ing rockstar.”

The remarks came as Mr. Maher turned to the subject of young political assassins and attempted assassins, a topic he said has shifted in character from earlier generations. “These are not your father’s political assassins,” he said. “Things have changed. For one thing, today’s assassins have popular support with the kids.”

And a lot of the people celebrating him are also calling for gun control, while also thinking violence is totally called for in order to advance their political agenda. There’s a lot to call out.

Maher is absolutely correct about the double standard because the hypocrisy is real and obvious, but no one on that side of the aisle is going to listen to me about it. They might listen to Maher.

Probably not, but still…

Look, I don’t actually have an issue with the left recognizing that the purpose of the Second Amendment isn’t to protect our ability to hunt. Hunting is awesome, and all that, but that’s not what it was about and not what it was ever about. It’s about defending our nation, even if we need to defend it from our government.

But the problem isn’t that they see it that way. It’s that they still don’t, but are more than willing to celebrate a cold-blooded killer who murdered a married father of two because he didn’t like how the company the victim ran handled things. This is an irrational approach to literally anything, and they’re swooning over him. Just look up how “journalist” Taylor Lorenz has fangirled over him and recognized that she’s just one example–and he’s just one of her fangirling targets who likes violence.

Maher called his own side out. There needs to be a whole lot more of that. Somehow, I’m skeptical that we’ll see much of it.

Editor’s Note: The radical Left will stop at nothing to enact their radical gun control agenda and strip us of our Second Amendment rights.
