A lot of people say they’ll feel safer if we have stricter gun control laws on the books. That doesn’t really matter all that much because, well, we don’t infringe on people’s rights because of feels. If we did, I’d start pushing to round up a whole lot of people because they make me feel unsafe, and no, that won’t be based on race, sex, or any immutable characteristic.
Anyway, an embarrassing number of Americans want British-style gun control, and they probably don’t see a big issue with the British dude who got arrested over a picture that was taken during a vacation in Florida.
But if we’re going to talk about feelings and how much they matter, then maybe we should talk about this:
A British man who was jailed after he shared images of himself posing with guns during a US holiday has admitted he doesn’t “feel safe” in the UK anymore.

Following his initial release on bail until late October, police visited his home three additional times.
Speaking to GB News, he said: “It’s just absolutely Orwellian… I’ve been persecuted by the police over an innocuous post.
“I just want to get out of this country. I don’t feel welcome anymore.
Can you blame him?
I mean, he took a picture on vacation and did something that was perfectly legal there–and can be done legally in his home country, mind you–and they arrested him over it. They kept coming to his house after being released on bail. They took his computer and phone, which kept him from working as an IT professional. They harassed him, and for what?
Because he had a picture of him shooting in a completely different country and a picture of some property in a different post? Seriously?
If anti-gunners get their way, the United States would descend into that same hole, and then whose feelings matter? Theirs, or the guy who watched the police try to destroy his life over nothing?
I don’t blame the guy for not feeling safe in his home nation. While “immigrants” seem to be free to run wild and be above criticism, he faced having his life ripped apart over nothing, and there isn’t so much as an apology from his government for doing so.
There’s no way this should have happened, even in the UK. The fact that they’re now looking to pull back jury trials for a lot of crimes that are worse than this shouldn’t make this poor guy feel any better.
And there’s absolutely no way that we can give even an inch toward anything that might lead us down this same road.
It’s past time to stop pretending the UK is part of the free world anymore. It’s not. It’s everything Orwell tried to warn people about, to say nothing of legions of other dystopian fiction writers who tried to warn people as well.
Hell, I saw that in exchange for deporting so many illegal immigrants who only want to destroy what makes this nation great, we should import people who want to embrace freedom…probably like this guy.
