Let’s Talk About Man Who Got Shot by Secret Service on Monday

For some reason, it wasn’t a bigger story, but a man was shot by the Secret Service in Washington, D.C., on Monday, just moments after Vice President J.D. Vance’s motorcade passed by. While the official line is that they don’t believe the man was intending to harm Vance or anyone else in the motorcade, the shooting still happened.

And boy, is there a lot to unpack in this one.

For starters, he was a convicted felon from Texas, carrying a gun illegally in the nation’s capital, and clearly not a fan of the current administration.

Photos from surveillance cameras show the man who was shot Monday by U.S. Secret Service agents near the White House allegedly pulling a gun and firing toward officers during a confrontation just after Vice President JD Vance’s motorcade passed through the area.

The suspect, identified as Michael Marx, 45, of Texas, was spotted Monday afternoon near 15th Street and Independence Avenue NW, which is roughly a half mile from the White House, when officers noticed what appeared to be a concealed gun.

When agents approached, Marx ran, then pulled a handgun from his waistband while fleeing, according to a federal affidavit reviewed by Fox News Digital.

As officers chased him through a busy crosswalk filled with pedestrians, Marx turned and fired in the direction of a Secret Service officer, documents say.

Court records show Marx was not licensed to carry a gun in Washington, D.C., and had a prior felony drug conviction in Florida, making it illegal for him to possess a gun.

He has been federally charged with assaulting federal officers with a dangerous weapon, using and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence and illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

After he was wounded, Marx allegedly spat at officers and shouted “F— the White House” and “Kill me, kill me, kill me” while being transported in an ambulance, according to the affidavit.

It seems that the gun printed enough for surveillance personnel to observe it and report it to others, which led to the confrontation. And Marx getting shot a few times.

The fact that his last name is “Marx” just makes my anti-communist butt laugh. Anyway…

We don’t know how badly the weapon printed against his clothing, but many of us have picked up enough about how guns print that we can observe someone carrying without them making too big a show about it, so I shouldn’t be surprised or concerned that the Secret Service does, too.

And while I don’t think carrying a gun should be grounds for law enforcement to approach you for questioning in and of itself, the fact that Vance had just passed by changes the equation a bit, especially in light of recent events. Marx’s comments about the White House would suggest that he wouldn’t have been all broken up if the White House Correspondence Dinner had ended in blood. 

Granted, he may have also just been angry that he got shot by the Secret Service and blamed the White House. 

Still, it’s worth noting that this was a felon in possession of a firearm, in the heavily gun-controlled District of Columbia, carrying a firearm without a permit, and then taking off and taking a couple of shots at the Secret Service. Once again, gun control doesn’t work against criminals, just the law-abiding.

The only reason this one seems to have gotten caught was that he chose to go for a walk on the wrong street at the wrong time, as the vice president was traveling by.

No, it doesn’t appear to have been an attempt on Vance’s life, in part because the guy had a 9mm Sig Sauer on him, which anyone with half a brain should realize wouldn’t go through the protective glass on the vice president’s vehicle. Then again, it’s not like Marx here has shown a great deal of intelligence as it is, so who knows?
