Nashville Man Charged With Two Homicides While on Probation for Previous Homicide Charge

Violent crime is down across the country, and that’s a very good thing. Our homicide rate hitting record lows is something that we should all be celebrating, and we’re on pace to see it even lower this year. Again, a very good thing.

However, the only acceptable number of homicides is zero, and that means there’s always work to be done. We need to be realistic, though, which is why gun control is still a non-starter.

But maybe the answer is to not let dangerous people walk around on our city streets? I’m just putting that one out there, especially after this recent incident in Nashville.

A Nashville man on felony probation was arrested Wednesday on two counts of criminal homicide, records show, adding new charges to an existing felony case.

Edgar Saul Beltran, 20, is currently being held at the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office Downtown Detention Center in Nashville.

The probation violation charge comes after Beltran had a prior felony case already active before this arrest.

Beltran was previously wanted for criminal homicide and attempted criminal homicide after a gun deal ended in gunfire, killing 19-year-old Alijzhia Hatcher and hospitalizing a second 19-year-old, a relative of Hatcher.

In other words, he was on probation pending trial in a homicide and attempted homicide case, and allegedly killed two more people while out and about.

Absolutely brilliant.

Look, I get the legal problems with holding someone indefinitely when they can’t afford bail. You’re imprisoning them for prolonged periods when they’ve been convicted of nothing. I get that, and I don’t like it in the least. My libertarian sensibilities are screaming at me about this.

But the problem is that there are some people who are clearly dangerous, and just letting them walk among the rest of us when they clearly don’t deserve that honor is problematic, too. People die, and all too often, they’re innocent people who didn’t deserve it.

Beltran apparently has a habit of killing people during gun deals (allegedly), which means he probably shouldn’t get a pass, especially this time around. Keep him safe and sound in a cell until his trial, and then, maybe, Nashville will have a few fewer bodies.

Let’s remember that the post-pandemic spike in murders also came after many leftists pushed “cashless bail” that turned jail cells into revolving doors, and flooded the streets with violent offenders.

Nothing has really changed about these people.

Meanwhile, the same people who wanted that also wanted your guns taken away or, at the very least, so locked up and regulated as to where you could carry them that you really couldn’t do anything with them. Flood the streets with violence, make it impossible to defend yourself, and then you’d look to the state to come in riding a white horse to save the day.

I’m not saying that’s what Nashville is dealing with, but I’m never going to forgive those people, and I’m never going to understand making it easy for people accused of horrific crimes to walk about freely.

Two more people are dead because some folks in Nashville allowed that to happen. I hope they can live with themselves.
