‘An Utterly Ridiculous Comment to Make’

Garth Brooks’ daughter Allie Colleen is facing criticism over the tribute she shared after country music legend Dolly Parton’s death.

Several social media users objected to how the singer and songwriter connected the loss to her own fear of someday losing her famous father, as reported by Page Six.

Colleen, 30, posted the lengthy message on Instagram Tuesday. While mourning Parton, she opened up about the prospect of the world grieving Brooks without knowing him as personally as she does.

“My greatest fear in life is the day my Dad loses his life, and I have to see the world mourn a man they never knew the way I knew him,” Colleen began.

She then directed her condolences toward those who were closest to Parton. “To the personal family and friends of Mrs. Dolly, you have all my love and condolences today and forever going forward,” she continued.

“What a huge, beautiful, special life to have loved and to grieve. Thank you for sharing her with us all.”

Colleen also described mourning as a “beautiful privilege,” explaining that “to grieve is to know you loved deeply and fully.” She ended the tribute by expressing love for Parton and those grieving for her while asking fans to “respect the family and her personal friends.”

The message quickly drew objections from people who believed Colleen had placed too much emphasis on her relationship with her 64-year-old father.

Critics argued that the tribute should have remained focused on Parton and her loved ones.

“This is the weirdest condolence post I have ever seen. It’s giving how can I make something not about myself, about me. This is nepo baby at its worst.”

Another commenter was similarly blunt, writing, “An utterly ridiculous comment to make. This is not about you or your father.”

A third person suggested Colleen should have sought feedback before publishing the post.

“Allie, just a note. Next time, let someone read your work before you publish it. I know what you meant; however, now was not the time to say it,” the commenter wrote.

Other people questioned what they saw as Colleen’s suggestion that fans could not understand the grief experienced by a celebrity’s family and friends.

One person attempted to reassure her that others may have endured similar pain.

“We will mourn the loss, never in the way you will. Just know that all of us may have gone through that before, and we will understand your pain,” that person commented.

Colleen disagreed with the comparison, replying, “I don’t think you will.. I would never relate to you losing your father – I don’t know how you would relate to mine. Kind of exactly what I am talking about ”

Another follower pushed back on that response. “That’s kinda insinuating like none of us have loved our dads as much as you love yours? Loss is loss. Everyone who has experienced it can relate,” the person wrote.

Colleen then clarified that she was not trying to minimize anyone else’s experience with loss. “I would never act like I understand how much you grieve anyone – that’s all I am saying.”

“I would never act like I understand how you feel the day you lose your person, so I would expect the same respect that you don’t know how I feel the day I lose mine,” she added.

Despite the backlash, Colleen received support from Mackenzie Lynn Adkins, the daughter of country singer Trace Adkins. Mackenzie said the fear Colleen described was both frightening and real for her and her sisters.

“I’m more of an avoidant when it comes to fears like this. But that is very, very scary and real for my sisters and I. Thank you for explaining it better than I could,” Mackenzie commented.

Colleen responded warmly, writing, “I know you understand, babe should the day come— we’ll get through it.”

Parton died Tuesday at age 80 after a brief battle with cancer, leaving behind a $450 million estate. The family of the “Jolene” singer announced her death as tributes arrived from fans and fellow celebrities.

Colleen is the youngest of Brooks’ three daughters with his ex-wife, Sandy Mahl. The former couple also shares daughters Taylor and August.

Following her famous father into country music, Colleen pursued her own recording career. She released her debut album, “Stones,” in 2021.
