AOC Sees 51–49 Poll, Starts Acting Like a Frontrunner

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez fueled early 2028 presidential speculation on Wednesday after reacting to a new poll showing her narrowly leading Vice President of the United States J.D. Vance in a hypothetical matchup, as reported by The New York Post.

Ocasio-Cortez, a Democrat who represents parts of Queens and the Bronx, responded with a single-word post on X after an Argument/Verasight poll showed her ahead of Vance, 51% to 49%.

Her reaction consisted of one word: “Bloop!”

The poll result added to growing questions about Ocasio-Cortez’s political future, as she weighs whether to pursue a national bid or challenge Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York in 2028.

The congresswoman has remained publicly noncommittal about her plans, declining to say whether she intends to seek the presidency or Schumer’s Senate seat.

According to the latest RealClearPolitics polling average, Ocasio-Cortez currently ranks as the fourth-highest polling Democrat for the 2028 presidential race.

She trails former Vice President Kamala Harris, former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, and California Gov. Gavin Newsom. Vance, meanwhile, has consistently polled as the top Republican contender in early 2028 surveys.

Vance received a boost earlier this week following a Vanity Fair report in which Secretary of State Marco Rubio, viewed as a potential rival, indicated he would not run for president in 2028 if Vance entered the race.

Over the past year, Ocasio-Cortez has used the possibility of a future Senate run to exert pressure within Democratic leadership circles.

In March, she publicly criticized Schumer after Senate Republicans advanced a measure to avert a government shutdown.

Her potential primary challenge was also a backdrop during the 43-day government shutdown in the fall, when Democrats repeatedly filibustered a Republican-backed bill to reopen the government.

When asked directly about a potential run against Schumer, Ocasio-Cortez sought to downplay immediate speculation. “He’s not up for election this cycle,” she said when questioned about her intentions for 2028.

Like Ocasio-Cortez, Vance has avoided making definitive statements about his political plans beyond the current term.

Speaking on Fox News’ “Hannity,” the vice president addressed the topic while focusing on nearer-term priorities.

“We’re going to win the midterms. We’re going to do everything that we can to win the midterms,” Vance said. “And then after that, I’m going to sit down with the president of the United States and talk to him about it.”

President Trump has also publicly teased the idea of a future run, despite the 22nd Amendment barring a third presidential term.

The Argument/Verasight poll that prompted Ocasio-Cortez’s post surveyed 1,521 registered voters and reported a margin of error of plus or minus 2.7 percentage points.

While the 2028 election cycle remains years away, Ocasio-Cortez’s brief social media reaction quickly reignited debate over Democratic succession plans and potential matchups, underscoring how early polling and online messaging are already shaping discussion around the next presidential race.
