Pakistani authorities launched a search operation after a K2 Airways Boeing 737 cargo aircraft carrying five crew members disappeared over the Arabian Sea while flying from Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, to Karachi, Pakistan, as reported by Trending Politics News.

According to officials, K2 Airways Flight 1732 departed Sharjah on Tuesday and was en route to Karachi when the crew reported a “navigation system problem.”

Radar and radio contact with the aircraft were lost at approximately 9:21 p.m. local time, about 155 nautical miles west of Karachi.

Radar data reportedly indicated the aircraft entered a rapid descent shortly before contact was lost.

On Wednesday, officials announced that wreckage had been located 53 nautical miles south of Ormara, but no crew members had been found.

The aircraft was identified as a 27-year-old Boeing 737-400 freighter, registration AP-BOI, according to aviation databases Airfleets.net and Planespotters.net. The plane was the only aircraft operated by K2 Airways.

Following the disappearance, Pakistani military and civilian agencies initiated a large search-and-rescue effort across the Arabian Sea.

The Pakistan Navy diverted the frigate PNS Zulfiqar to the search area, while the Pakistan Air Force deployed aircraft to assist.

A Pakistan Navy ATR aircraft also departed from Turbat, about 270 miles west of Karachi, to support the operation.

Aviation analyst Imran Aslam told ARY News that the aircraft’s reported rapid descent was unusual.

He said:

“I still cannot understand how the plane went down so abruptly instead of gliding.”

According to the report, Aslam noted that even if an aircraft experiences an engine failure, it would normally continue gliding rather than descend so quickly.

Authorities have not determined the cause of the crash.

According to K2 Airways’ website, the airline was established in 2018, and its first Boeing 737-400SF arrived in Karachi on July 1, 2024.

The company states that its mission is to “connect businesses by providing safe, efficient, and innovative air cargo,” and adds:

“We aim to expand our fleet and operations, further solidifying our position as a leader in Pakistan’s aviation.”

Investigators continue working to determine what caused the aircraft to disappear, while search crews continue looking for the five missing crew members.
