House Oversight Chair James Comer issued a subpoena to Attorney General Pam Bondi Tuesday over possible mismanagement of the federal government’s handing of the Epstein files.

In a letter to Bondi, Comer raised concerns over the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) compliance with a law passed by Congress last year forcing the release of all the files. The move comes a month after five House Republicans on House Oversight joined their Democratic colleagues in calling Bondi to testify in front of the committee. The deposition is scheduled for April 14, 2026.

“As Attorney General, you are directly responsible for overseeing the Department’s collection, review, and determinations regarding the release of files pursuant to the Epstein Files Transparency Act, and the Committee therefore believes that you possess valuable insight into these efforts,” Comer wrote in his letter.

The department has stalled in releasing the files  — which were ordered to be released within 30 days of the law’s passage — prompting Republican Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie and Democratic California Rep. Ro Khanna considered holding Bondi in inherent contempt of Congress. Khanna also floated the possibility of impeaching Bondi over the mishandling of the files.

The DOJ released thousands of files after Congress passed the Epstein Files Transparency Act, but many still remained under lock and key. Members of Congress were recently allowed to personally visit the DOJ to look through unreacted files themselves with nothing but pen and paper, but the allowance was eventually used against the lawmakers.

In her Congressional hearing, Bondi had records of which files lawmakers on the Oversight Committee looked up during their visits, prompting a rare rebuke from Speaker of the House Mike Johnson.

The Oversight Committee also subpoenaed former President Bill Clinton and former first lady Hillary Clinton as a part of their probe into the Epstein files.
