Cameron Young kept his hot streak rolling Sunday at Trump National Doral and then added a little extra weight to the moment afterward, saying it was an honor to win with President Donald Trump on site for the final round.

Young closed out a six-shot victory at the Cadillac Championship in Doral, Florida, finishing at 19-under and beating Scottie Scheffler, who ended at 13-under.

The win was Young’s second of the season, and it pushed an already strong run into something bigger. He had tied for seventh at the Genesis Invitational, tied for third at Bay Hill, won THE PLAYERS Championship, and then tied for third at The Masters before arriving at Doral. By the end of Sunday, he had added another signature win and a $3.6 million purse to the stretch.

The setting made the finish stand out even more. Trump attended the final round, which changed the feel of the day around the course. Young said the added security and movement restrictions were obvious from the start. “Once you get out there … you’re out doing your job, but everything that leads up to that, you know, the place is obviously crawling in Secret Service and security and police, and it has a definitely a different feel,” Young said. He added that he was blocked from entering one usual route into the clubhouse and had to circle around because of the security setup.

Here’s What They’re Not Telling You About Your Retirement

Young said the change in routine did alter the rhythm of the day early, but not enough to throw him off in a meaningful way. “So, there’s little things like that that’s obviously different with the President here, and it changed the rhythm of the day a little bit to start, but it was already so thrown off by the delays that, you know, it didn’t matter too much,” he said.

After the round, Young said he spoke briefly with Trump and thanked him for hosting the tournament. He said Trump was complimentary and spoke in a way that showed appreciation for the level of play on tour. “He was just very complimentary, the way that he – you know, I’ve been fortunate to meet him before, and that’s especially with us golfers, it’s something he loves and I think appreciates how good everybody is on the PGA Tour,” Young said. “So really just hugely complementary, and I, of course, thanked him for hosting us and that was about it.”

Then came the line that turned the post-round comments into a bigger talking point. Asked about the meeting and the atmosphere, Young said he was grateful to Trump and his family and called it an honor to play in front of him. “It’s very unique,” Young said. “He’s nothing if not a very, very interesting man. He’s very powerful, and it’s an honor to get to play in front of him. Hugely grateful to him and his family and his organization that has these beautiful properties and allows us to come and play great golf tournaments on them. This is a special place and great championship golf course, I’m thankful to have it back in the schedule.”

That gave Young’s win a little more national attention than a normal tour stop might get, but the golf itself was the bigger statement. Beating Scheffler by six shots at Doral is not a small result, especially with Young already stacking top finishes in major events and signature tournaments.
