Canada’s State-Funded CBC Punishes Jewish Journalist Who Exposed Vile Hamas Sympathizers [WATCH]

The state-funded Canadian Broadcasting Corporation pulled veteran journalist Neil Herland off the air after he filmed hostility outside a Toronto synagogue during Yom Kippur.

CBC also informed the Jewish reporter that he would face an investigation and disciplinary action.

Herland is a senior CBC journalist and producer with three decades of experience reporting news across North America.

Yet documenting an ugly scene outside his own synagogue was apparently enough to land the award-winning broadcaster in trouble with management.

The confrontation unfolded as Herland attended a synagogue service for Yom Kippur.

Protesters outside screamed variations of “free Palestine,” while someone announced a “Zionist alert” whenever another worshiper arrived.

One masked man pushed a megaphone into Herland’s face and shouted, “You’re going to hell.”

Herland recorded the scene rather than looking away, providing an unfiltered picture of what Jewish worshipers encountered outside their religious service.

The abuse was not limited to Herland. A woman was called an “ugly Jewish bitch,” while another protester targeted the cantor after he went outside and smiled.

“The Jew smiles while he kills babies in Gaza,” the protester yelled.

The remark came as worshipers were trying to observe one of the most important days on the Jewish calendar.

A Toronto Police officer then told the cantor to stop “antagonizing” the protesters.

Instead of placing the scrutiny squarely on the mob hurling antisemitic abuse, the officer’s warning was directed at the Jewish man who had walked outside and smiled.

Herland later described the broader atmosphere facing Jewish Canadians in a thread posted to X.

His account included recent violence and the security measures that have become familiar around synagogues, Jewish schools, religious sites, and businesses.

“Jewish Canadians are living in a parallel world,” Herland wrote.

He added, “Where police stand guard with guns outside synagogues.”

Herland also said Jewish institutions and businesses had been targeted with bullets, while most Canadians lacked awareness or understanding of what was happening.

His comments followed reports shared at the synagogue about suspected violence against Jews.

The synagogue’s cantor announced that his nephew had been murdered in Ukraine on Rosh Hashanah in a suspected hate crime.

The Toronto congregation also announced that an attack had occurred outside the Sons of Jacob Synagogue in Belleville.

Herland is the son of an Austrian Holocaust survivor, and his family originally arrived in Canada as refugees fleeing violent antisemitism.

He is now considering leaving Canada as hostility toward Jewish people continues to shape his own experience.

CBC management responded to Herland’s posts by swiftly removing him from the air and informing him that he would be investigated.

A first disciplinary hearing involving Herland and his lawyer was held Thursday afternoon.

The complaint against Herland reportedly came from Canadians for Justice and Peace and the Middle East.

The Toronto Sun described the organization as an antisemitic radical group that has compared the Star of David to a swastika.

CBC employees who spoke anonymously to the Toronto outlet argued that the corporation was treating Herland unfairly.

They pointed to previous occasions when CBC allowed Muslim employees to share their experiences involving alleged targeted violence.

That comparison exposes the glaring double standard at the heart of CBC’s response.

When a Jewish journalist documented open abuse outside a synagogue, management treated the journalist as the problem while the people screaming antisemitic insults escaped the same institutional fury.

Herland did not manufacture the confrontation or launch an ambush against protesters.

He filmed what was happening outside his synagogue on a Jewish holy day, and CBC rewarded that act of journalism by taking him off the air and beginning disciplinary proceedings.
