Day Three of Tyler Robinson’s Preliminary Hearing
SHARE

Today is day three of the Tyler Robinson preliminary hearing. The point of this hearing is for the prosecution to lay out the evidence of Tyler Robinson’s guilt so a judge can decide whether or not there is enough evidence to bring the matter to trial. In this case it’s a foregone conclusion because the evidence against Robinson is overwhelming. Nevertheless, the preliminary hearing is being closely watched because we’re finally getting some new details about the case that clear out some of the conspiracy theories being promoted by Candace Owens, Baron Coleman and others.

Yesterday afternoon the hearing got into some of the DNA evidence in the case.

Jennifer Faumuina, a prosecution witness and Utah investigator, told the court that FBI testing found Robinson’s DNA and that of his roommate on a screwdriver recovered from the rooftop where authorities believed the perpetrator fired from. Their DNA was also found on a towel that was wrapped around a rifle that officials say was used in the killing.

In response to this, Baron Coleman, who has been surfing the Candace Owens wave as a podcaster, put up a claim on X that “89-95% of the DNA on the screwdriver and towel came from Lance Twiggs.” Many people pointed out he had gotten this backwards as was clarified yesterday.

Coleman, of course, did not correct the record.

Today’s hearing didn’t get started until around 1 pm so there’s not as much to cover today. However, we did get some clarification of the timeline from Brian Davis with the Utah State Bureau of Investigation. Davis testified he was called to fly down to St. George, Utah where Tyler Robinson had turned himself in on September 11th. Davis arrived around 11:30 pm. He was told that Robinson had arrived with his parents around 9 pm.

🚨 BREAKING: Utah SBI Agent Brian Davis testified that Tyler Robinson voluntarily arrived at the Washington County Sheriff’s Office around 9 p.m. on September 11 with his parents and a family friend before identifying himself by name.

Davis first watched Robinson being interviewed on a TV monitor. But he also met Robinson and got his name directly from Robinson himself. Davis then interviewed Robinson’s mother with the help of an FBI agent. Two other agents were simultaneously interviewing Robinson’s father. And two more interviewed the family friend who had helped arrange Robinson’s surrender. After all of this was complete, Robinson was formally arrested at around 4 am on September 12th.

This has been another point of contention as Baron Coleman and others have claimed Robinson was under arrest prior to the time when the messages he exchanged online were posted (suggesting it was a set up). But if Robinson arrived around 9pm, that was about an hour after his last message was posted online.

TIMELINE NOTE: Utah SBI Agent Brian Davis just testified that Tyler Robinson turned himself in at approximately 9:00 p.m. MDT on September 11.

A new video was played showing Robinson in an interview room on the night he surrendered himself.

This is part of a longer video with sound but the defense objected to showing the whole thing so this is all we’re getting for now.

Finally, there was an argument about whether or not a video of Lance Twiggs should be shown in court. We’ll get back to that tomorrow.
