A Trump-aligned organization is dropping a new six-figure ad campaign against Texas Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico, who recently flip-flopped on his policy approach to sex transitioning procedures, the Daily Caller has learned.
The 15-second AI-generated ad shows “Talafreako,” as he has been nicknamed, parodying “My Favorite Things” as the character of Maria in The Sound of Music. The ad was first obtained by the Caller. The changed lyrics go: “Boys in white dresses with blue satin sashes. Girls dosed with hormones til they grow mustaches. Changing the gender of all your offspring. These are a few of my favorite things.”
The six-figure ad campaign is funded by Citizens for Sanity (CFS), a conservative non-profit organization that historically funds ads targeting Democratic woke agendas, absent border security and rising crime rates. The non-profit dropped $93 million during the 2022 midterms, funding ads that exposed the climbing number of crimes in Democrat-governed cities.

The “Favorite Things” ad references a viral clip of Talarico from a 2023 interview, in which the Texan candidate admitted that, besides family and friends, he loved “the trans children” the most.
“I love — and I’m just going to say this cause it’s on my mind — I love the trans children who showed up yesterday at the state Capitol to advocate for their humanity,” Talarico told actor Caroline Forbes on “A Superbloom Podcast.”

Texan Democrats are making efforts to portray the radical progressive as a mainstream Democrat in the hopes of appealing to a broader voter base. Contrary to previous statements, Talarico told Texan lawyer Dan Cogdell in a Monday interview that he “oppose[s] gender reassignment surgeries for minors.”

The Texas state representative voted against Senate Bill 14 in 2023, which prohibits doctors from providing gender reassignment surgeries to children under 18.
Talarico has received heat for other statements, including his claim on the Texas House floor that “God is non-binary,” that “there are many more than two biological sexes — in fact, there are six,” and his biblical justification for abortion on the Joe Rogan show. The Christian pastor has also referred to women as “neighbors with a uterus” and said that “our trans community needs abortion care, too” during sermons.
During a May CBS interview, Talarico backed off from his non-binary statement, saying he “was being intentionally provocative.”
“James Talafreako might be Democrats’ new fresh face, but he’s singing a very different tune than most Texans. Voting against the parental bill of rights, bolstering the trans agenda, and claiming that Jesus was a radical feminist — that’s not in line with America, and it’s definitely not in line with Texas. Rejecting the weirdest candidate in politics will be an easy choice for voters in November,” CFS Senior Advisor and former Deputy White House Counsel to President Donald Trump Gene Hamilton told the Daily Caller in a statement.
The CFS ad campaign joins a Republican effort to draw a sharp contrast between Talarico’s “out-of-touch” policies and his Trump-backed opponent Ken Paxton’s “common sense” platform, according to CFS.
During the 2024 presidential campaign, transgender issues became a hot-button issue. Trump and his campaign ran an ad telling voters that former Vice President Kamala Harris was for “they/them,” but the now-president was for “you.”
A leaked draft of the Democratic National Committee’s autopsy of Harris’ campaign showed how the issue negatively impacted the former vice president’s run.
The autopsy states that Trump’s “attack ad focused on the Vice President’s prior statements on transgendered Americans” was “very effective,” according to pollsters.
