Federal Fraud Task Force Uncovers a Staggering $13 Billion in Suspected Contractor Schemes [WATCH]

The General Services Administration announced Tuesday that investigators have identified more than $13 billion in suspected fraud involving federal contractors.

The staggering figure covers activity reviewed since March and marks the largest suspected fraud identification in agency history, as reported by Trending Politics News.

The findings emerged from the agency’s work with the White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud, chaired by Vice President JD Vance.

President Donald Trump established the task force through an executive order in March, adding another enforcement weapon to his administration’s campaign against government waste.

GSA officials said the historic total is unmatched in both dollars and the number of contractors implicated.

That scale offers another sobering glimpse into how deeply questionable spending practices may have spread through the federal procurement system.

Investigators used contracting data from across the government, public reporting, and information gathered through inspector general enforcement efforts.

The agency says those tools are increasing its ability to detect waste, abuse, false claims, and schemes designed to siphon money from American taxpayers.

The stakes are enormous because GSA manages more than $126 billion in products and services through federal contracts.

It also operates a central marketplace where private businesses compete for opportunities to provide goods and services to federal agencies.

“Let this serve as a warning to any bad actors thinking of stealing from the federal government: we will catch you, we will work with law enforcement to ensure your arrest, and we will do everything in our power to help recover every dollar you stole,” GSA Administrator Edward C. Forst said in a statement.

Forst said fraudsters who falsify records or misrepresent themselves “steal not just from taxpayers” but also from honest contractors supporting federal agencies.

In other words, crooked applicants do not merely raid the Treasury; they rig the marketplace against legitimate businesses that followed the rules.

“Anyone who lies their way into receiving taxpayer dollars is putting their business, their reputation, and their freedom at risk. GSA is fully committed to working with Vice President Vance’s task force to root out fraud and protect the integrity of federal procurement.”

The GSA Office of Governmentwide Policy is leading the review and reaches into several major areas of concern.

Investigators are examining COVID-19 spending, contractor eligibility, bid rigging, bribery, cybersecurity, false claims, and risks involving contractor integrity.

Officials are also reviewing the integrity of the Small Business Administration’s 8(a) program.

Some suspected schemes reportedly involved smaller businesses being used as conduits so larger or otherwise ineligible firms could obtain federal contracts they were not qualified to receive.

Potential cases are being referred to the GSA Office of the Inspector General or the Department of Justice for additional investigation.

A suspicion identified through data analysis is not the same as a conviction, but it can provide federal investigators with the trail needed to determine whether criminal charges or civil enforcement are warranted.

The $13 billion figure was reportedly added to the White House fraud.gov tracking website on the day of the announcement.

Separate figures posted there show that GSA has prevented $202.2 million in fraud through administrative actions since January 2025.

The government has also recovered $29.5 million through enforcement actions during that period.

Those totals remain far below the amount now under scrutiny, illustrating how identifying suspected fraud is only the beginning of the process of clawing taxpayer money back.

Earlier this year, GSA and the White House task force flagged roughly $6.3 billion in contracts directed toward potentially fraudulent businesses.

The latest announcement more than doubles that earlier figure and suggests investigators are widening their review rather than treating the first discovery as a convenient stopping point.

The full $13 billion has not been recovered, seized, or adjudicated, and officials describe it as suspected activity uncovered during an ongoing examination.

Still, the sheer size of the findings should make every federal contractor think twice before submitting false records, concealing eligibility problems, or treating Washington as a bottomless cash machine.
