For being a ‘Southern’ state, North Carolina can be such a hotbed of liberal AWFLness sometimes that it staggers the mind.
FTR, the post header picture isn’t a Brazilian at all, although the chapeau is festive enough for a carnival. That is North Carolina Representative Alma Adams, who represents Charlotte. Rep. Adams doesn’t care for our federal immigration efforts or officers very much.
Now, I don’t know if it’s a combination of all those world-class universities swallowing some NC cities whole that have tilted the scale almost irreparably to the left, as such institutions are wont to do.
Hundreds take to the streets of Raleigh and Durham to demand ‘ICE out’
Hundreds of protesters marched through Raleigh and downtown Durham on Friday as part of a “national shutdown” movement taking place across the U.S. to oppose the federal immigration crackdown.
The demonstrations, which took place in the early afternoon, were among more than a dozen across the state, including protests against ICE and Border Patrol in Charlotte, Asheville, Winston-Salem and elsewhere. They accompanied a nationwide push to boycott economic activity in solidarity with Minnesota, with protest groups calling for “no work, no school, no shopping” on Jan. 30.
Protesters held signs calling for justice for Renee Good and Alex Pretti, two Minneapolis activists who were fatally shot at protests against the immigration campaign earlier this month. Most focused on immigration issues and the clashes with immigration authorities while others carried calls to action on issues like the U.S. strike on Venezuela, the release of the Epstein files and the War in Gaza.
About 200 assembled at the base of N.C. State’s Memorial Belltower at noon, many of them college students who walked out of their classes in solidarity with the protests in Minnesota. Demonstrators held up a banner reading, “From Raleigh to Minneapolis, stop ICE terror.”
Or if it’s a chunk of that mixed in with the craven sense of entitlement that seems to come hand in glove with any city run by Democrats for extended periods. The corruption factor is always lurking just below the surface, while the surface bubbles and festers away.
🚨HOLY CRAP!!!
A former Charlotte NC City Councilmember and BOTH of her daughters have now pleaded GUILTY to stealing over $124,000 in COVID relief money…

…Prosecutors say she and her daughters, Tijema Brown and Antionette Rouse, filed at least 15 FAKE loan applications for businesses that DID NOT EXIST, using forged tax documents, to drain pandemic relief funds meant for struggling Americans.
They got a mind-boggling $124,000.
They spent it on Louis Vuitton bags and a $15,000 BIRTHDAY PARTY with horses, thrones, fancy gifts.
And this isn’t her first time.
Tiawana Brown is a CONVICTED FELON who already served federal prison time for fraud, years before Charlotte NC voters put her on the City Council.
This week, the last of the three, her daughter Antionette, pleaded guilty. She admitted to pocketing astonishing $51,000 by herself…
In July of last year, that university bias was raising its head as statistics started to become available for use in anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement efforts in the Tarheel State.
The University of North Carolina (UNC) News, which you’ll no doubt be shocked to find is affiliated with National Public Radio (NPR) and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB)), published some interesting figures from UCLA and UC Berkeley showing the upward swing in ICE detentions in the state. The verbiage is not exactly a ‘just the facts’ recitation of the situation.
TRUMP’S DIRECTIVES TO FILL IMMIGRATION JAILS
Recently released data shows the sharp rise of Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s activity in North Carolina since the inauguration of President Donald Trump on Jan. 20.
Numbers from the Deportation Data Project begin to show the scope of the Trump administration’s directives to fill immigration jails — for example, ICE has made roughly 300 more arrests from Jan. 20 to June 26 this year than it did in all of 2024, a 16% increase.
A couple of additional quick factoids from Summer ’25:
ICE arrests nearly triple in 2025
- 1,822 people arrested, a 170% increase from 674 arrests in the same time period in 2024.
- While 46% had criminal convictions, 34% had no criminal convictions, 20% were never charged with a crime other than lacking legal status or presence, which is a civil offense.
To me, as I am impervious to complaints about ICE doing what they’re paid to do, it sounds as if they were being pretty thorough in snatching up illegal immigrants in North Carolina. Many of these ‘noncitizens,’ as UNCNews insists on referring to them, were caught during traffic stops, which the University finds distressing.
‘Gosh – just for a DUI?!’ I mean, you can almost hear their noses out of joint in your head.
- The data suggests the majority of detainers are for traffic violations — for the 908 detainers for which charges were reported by ICE, 20% were for a DUI charge; 6% were for unspecified traffic offenses; 6% were for larceny; 6% were for drug trafficking, 5% for assault; 5% and 4% for illegal entry and illegal re-entry, respectively.
Charlotte has a group of the usual suspects, who can glibly articulate why they want ICE out of North Carolina.
Last fall, they were all busy running their mouths about their ‘immigrant community’ until Bovino’s boys busted almost four dozen with violent felonies to their credit.
Then they didn’t have much to say.
North Carolina Democrats fall silent after ICE arrests dozens with violent records
Several North Carolina Democrats who criticized or opposed federal immigration authorities in Charlotte were largely silent when asked about the dozens of criminals arrested during the operation.
U.S. Border Patrol Commander Gregory Bovino – who hails from Watauga County and attended Appalachian State University in Boone – returned to familiar soil and was seen on-the-ground in Charlotte after weeks in Chicago.
By Monday, the Department of Homeland Security recorded 130 arrests of illegal immigrants, including at least 44 with violent criminal records ranging from aggravated assault to known gang activity, in its latest “worst of the worst” cache.
Oh, memories are short, though the useful tools crowd isn’t quite as large as it once was.
Here they are, out in front of the Charlotte courthouse, a week or so ago.
The stultifying denseness makes your head hurt while listening. And thank goodness for their sake that ICE and the Trump administration continue to completely ignore them.
Otherwise, this lovely woman, quoting ‘one person dying a week‘ in ICE detention centers, might well be a victim of an intoxicated illegal who slipped away from a DUI charge, or even met someone like this fellow, had ICE not been – what’s that phrase again?
Oh, yeah – enforcing the law.
Sadly for UNCNews, it all went down because of one of those darn traffic stops, too.
This nice Brazilian noncitizen man was holding his own wife against her will and thinking about a Mexican getaway when ICE stopped his car, and didn’t it all go south.
And wouldn’t you know? It turns out, the noncitizen is a real peach.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested a Brazilian illegal immigrant, who authorities say previously served as the commander of two designated Foreign Terrorist Organizations, after allegedly attempting to flee a North Carolina traffic stop while preparing to escape to Mexico.
Felipe Linares de Oliveira Dell Aquilla, known as “Don,” was arrested June 5 in Mooresville, North Carolina, after allegedly leading law enforcement on a vehicle pursuit that ended in a crash before his arrest, according to a Department of Homeland Security press release obtained by Fox News Digital.
Federal authorities say Dell Aquilla was wanted in Brazil on charges of criminal association and extortion and had been preparing to leave the United States for Mexico.
Dell Aquilla previously served as a commander within the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) and Comando Vermelho (CV), two Brazil-based criminal organizations that were recently designated Foreign Terrorist Organizations by the Trump administration, according to DHS.
Who was packed and packin’ for his Mexican vacay getaway.
…A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of multiple cellphones, laptops, cash and a 9 mm handgun, according to DHS.

The PCC and CV, from what I was able to glean from badly computer-translated videos, started as prison protection gangs in the early 90’s – one specifically after a prison riot where guards killed over 100 rioting inmates. They now have upwards of 70,000 or so members.
The State Department declared them terrorist organizations at the end of May this year.
Today, the U.S. Department of State is designating Comando Vermelho (CV) and Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) as Specially Designated Global Terrorists (SDGTs) and intends to designate both groups as Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTOs), effective June 5, 2026.
CV and PCC are two of the most violent criminal organizations in Brazil. Together, they command thousands of members and have orchestrated brutal attacks against Brazilian police officers, public officials, and civilians. Their influence and illicit networks extend far beyond Brazil’s borders, across our region and into our country.
Delighted that agents were able to capture this ‘North Carolina man’ without any interference from whistleblowing fools.
…Aquilla tried to flee the traffic stop in his vehicle, leading law enforcement on a pursuit that ended with him crashing into stopped traffic. He then tried to flee on foot, but was arrested by law enforcement shortly after. A search of his vehicle resulted in the seizure of numerous cell phones, laptops, money, and a 9mm handgun. During an interview, Aquilla’s wife confirmed that she had been held against her will.
“This arrest demonstrates the unwavering commitment of HSI to protect our communities from dangerous international criminals,” said Mark M. Zito, Special Agent in Charge of HSI in North and South Carolina. “By removing a known leader of violent foreign terrorist organizations—wanted for serious crimes including criminal association and extortion—we have prevented further harm to innocent people here and abroad. Our agents, working alongside dedicated state and local law enforcement partners, acted swiftly and decisively to ensure this individual will no longer threaten the safety of our neighborhoods. HSI will continue to pursue those who endanger our communities and bring them to justice.”
Catching this ‘noncitizen’ is a pretty big ‘get’ for ICE, and well done to them.
I wonder what, if anything, the voluble Rep Alma Adams and State Rep Dew, both of whom had plenty to say about ICE before Bovino arrested 44 violent offenders…
…One of the more pointed reactions to the raids came from North Carolina state Rep. Aisha Dew, D-Charlotte, who said Friday that “we do not need to have Border Patrol [here].”
“As I’ve already said, I’m not quite sure what border we’re patrolling here,” Dew said at a press conference, while adding that the surrounding states – South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee and Virginia – don’t pose any threats to the Old North State.
“[Charlotte] is a safe city. Our crime rates have gone down since the previous year. This is just another something out of the playbook,” Dew said.
Dew did not respond to a request for comment after the “worst of the worst” list came out.
Rep. Alma Adams, D-N.C., who represents most of Mecklenburg County and Charlotte, also slammed DHS’ operations on Thursday and pledged to stand up to “intimidation” of her district’s immigrant community.
“I am extremely concerned about the deployment of U.S. Border Patrol and ICE agents to Charlotte,” Adams said in a statement.
“Charlotte’s immigrant community is a proud part of the Queen City, and I will not stand by and watch my constituents be intimidated or harassed,” she added, accusing ICE of using excessive force in prior raids in Los Angeles and Chicago, and threatening the well-being of communities they visit.
“Those tactics and values have no place in the City of Charlotte or Mecklenburg County,” Adams said.
An Adams staffer answered the phone at her Washington office, but her office did not respond to an ensuing emailed inquiry…
…will have to say about this ‘immigrant’ arrest?
I guess ‘thank you’ would be asking too much.
Editor’s Note: Democrat politicians and their radical supporters will do everything they can to interfere with and threaten ICE agents enforcing our immigration laws.
