Ivanka Trump recounted the moment she saw the assassination attempt on her father, President Donald Trump, during an appearance discussing the events that unfolded in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Speaking about the incident, Ivanka Trump said she witnessed the shooting nearly as it happened while watching television outside by a pool.

She described immediately reacting to shield her children from the footage, as Fox News reported.

She said she saw the moment “almost immediately” and turned her children away as the situation unfolded. The experience, she said, was “incredibly difficult.”

Here’s What They’re Not Telling You About Your Retirement

Ivanka Trump said that as she watched the events, she believed her father would survive the attack, even as she processed the unfolding situation.

“I just knew that, like it wasn’t his time,” she said.

“So I was horrified, and I was scared. I was protective of my children, but I also didn’t believe that the worst possible outcome transpired. Thank God.”

She later saw her father that same evening when he returned from the hospital to Bedminster.

Reflecting on the experience, she described it as a moment that reinforced the importance of appreciating life.

“You can’t take things for granted in life,” she said.

Ivanka Trump also referenced other personal experiences that contributed to her perspective, including the death of her mother, Ivana Trump, and a past health scare involving her husband, Jared Kushner.

“All of these challenges that remind you how finite and how precious every moment of this life we live are, make you realize you just can’t take anything for granted,” she said. “As you move through them, and God willing, you are able to, and we were so fortunate that day that this was a failed attempt to take his life, not a realized one, you recommit to love and connection and to a recognition of how short our time here on this Earth is and how you got to value it.”

During the conversation, interviewer Steven Bartlett asked about the emotional impact of such events and whether they could lead to a negative outlook.

“I wonder how that doesn’t make you negative to the world?” Bartlett asked.

“Because I don’t allow it to,” Ivanka Trump responded.

Bartlett followed up, asking whether that outlook extended even to the person responsible for the attack.

“Even for the person that shot at your father?” he asked.

“There’s a lot of sickness there, and I think that forgiveness is a difficult thing in this regard,” she said.

Ivanka Trump said her father’s survival shaped how she processed the experience, emphasizing her focus on gratitude.

“His living was a blessing, so I could look at what happened and be rightfully traumatized by the experience and nobody could really argue with that, but you have to move through it and on the opposite side of that is the fact that he is – that he didn’t die, that he is with us today. That my father is alive, and that is an extraordinary blessing for me as his daughter. In life you have a choice, only in how you respond.”

She added that while seeing the incident replayed on television was difficult, she continues to focus on the outcome.

Ivanka Trump described her father’s survival as both a “miracle” and a “blessing,” stating that she has chosen to focus on that perspective following the events in Butler.
