Vice President J.D. Vance argued that immigration policies implemented under Joe Biden had direct economic consequences for native-born American workers, citing job competition, wage pressure, and housing costs as key areas affected by the surge of illegal aliens into the country.

Vance made the comments while discussing what he described as two major economic sectors impacted by illegal immigration: employment and housing.

He said the effects were measurable during the Biden administration and contrasted those outcomes with what he described as changes under President Donald Trump.

“So think about it. Just in two big economic sectors, housing and jobs,” Vance said.

“If you have illegal immigrants on the job side coming in and competing against Americans for good jobs, that’s going to depress the wages of the American worker you saw during the Biden administration, all of the net job growth went to people who were foreign born. Those were primarily illegal aliens.”

Vance stated that job growth trends shifted under President Trump, describing a reversal in who benefited from employment gains.

“If you look at the Trump economy, that’s completely different,” Vance said.

“The net job growth has gone to native born American workers.”

He framed the issue as a question of priorities, focusing on who economic policy is designed to benefit.

“So it’s really a question of, who does the economy exist for? Who are we trying to create prosperity for, for illegal aliens who are coming into our country, or for the American citizens whose parents and grandparents actually built this country with their bare hands?” Vance said.

Vance said that he and President Trump shared a clear position on that question.

“The President and I know our answer to that question,” he said.

Vance also criticized Democrats for what he described as misplaced focus, arguing that attention given to illegal aliens came at the expense of native-born workers affected by economic conditions during the Biden-Harris administration.

“And it’s weird to me that Scott that the Democrats are so focused on illegal immigrants that they ignore how bad the Biden economy was for native born workers,” Vance said.

After discussing employment, Vance turned to housing, describing how population increases driven by illegal immigration affected housing demand.

“So that’s the jobs piece. Let me talk about housing, Scott, because think about it, if you let in 2025, 30 million illegal aliens, you have to put them somewhere. They have to live somewhere,” Vance said.

He said increased demand for housing led directly to higher costs for American workers.

“And that drives the increase in demand for housing, which means rents go up for American workers, which means the cost of housing goes up for American workers,” he said.

Vance connected housing costs to border policy under Biden, describing the period as unprecedented.

“It is not a coincidence that during the worst open border we’ve ever had under Joe Biden, the cost of an American home doubled in four years,” Vance said.

He characterized the increase as extreme and linked it to inflation during that period.

“That is crazy, runaway inflation, even worse than the rest of the Biden inflation,” he said.

Vance said that housing trends changed after immigration enforcement increased under President Trump.

“Now that we’re getting those illegal immigrants out, you see, rents have come down for four straight months under the Trump economy,” Vance said.

He added that continued reductions in housing costs remained a goal.

“Again, we wanted to keep coming down,” he said.
