JD Vance Lays Out His Midterm ‘Elevator Pitch’ [WATCH]

Vice President JD Vance made the case for electing congressional Republicans over Democrats, arguing that the GOP has produced results on government fraud, energy and crime while pursuing policies intended to strengthen American industry.

Vance framed his argument around what he described as three basic priorities for voters: safety, security and prosperity.

“My elevator pitch is actually very simple. Do you want to live in a country that has safety and security and prosperity?” Vance said.

“If the answer is yes, and I think most Americans do, then vote for congressional Republicans over congressional Democrats.”

The remarks come as Vance has taken a prominent role in the Trump administration’s anti-fraud campaign.

In August, Vance wrote that the administration was targeting fraud involving Medicare, Medicaid, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and other federal benefits.

He argued that fraud diverts resources from Americans who legitimately depend on those programs.

Vance made the same case in his latest remarks, accusing Democrats of siding with people who defraud government programs.

“On every single issue, the Democrats have taken the side of fraudsters, of criminals, and of far-left interest groups over the side of the American people,” Vance said.

Vance said the administration’s goal is to remove fraudulent recipients from government programs while preserving assistance for eligible Americans.

“So, on fraud, we are trying to take money out of the hands of fraudsters so that people who rely on Medicaid, or people who rely on food stamp benefits, they’re able to get what they need because we’ve ensured that Americans people’s tax dollars actually go where it’s supposed to go rather than fraudsters,” Vance said.

He then drew a partisan distinction over those efforts.

“Democrats have fought for the fraudsters, and Republicans have fought for the people who deserve these benefits, and the American taxpayers who are paying those benefits,” Vance said.

Democrats have disputed Republican characterizations of their positions on federal benefits and have argued that GOP-backed changes can reduce access to programs such as Medicaid.

The major Republican tax-and-spending legislation signed by President Donald Trump in July 2025 included changes to both Medicaid and SNAP along with tax, energy, defense and immigration provisions.

Vance also focused on energy, accusing Democrats of pursuing policies hostile to domestic production while saying Republicans have spent the previous 18 months working to expand capacity.

“If you look at oil and gas policy, Democrats for a generation have gone to war against energy,” Vance said.

“We’ve tried to make it easier to build additional energy capacity, and we’ve done that for the past 18 months.”

Crime was another central part of Vance’s argument.

He credited the administration with a substantial reduction in violent crime and said Democrats had opposed Republican approaches to incarceration and law enforcement.

“If you look at crime, we have had, I think, the most successful anti-crime policy, maybe in the history of, I can’t think of a single 18-month period where you’ve seen violent crime drop so significantly thanks to the work of a single administration,” Vance said.

Vance went on to accuse Democrats of opposing efforts to incarcerate violent offenders and support police.

“They’ve fought us to prevent us from putting people, violent criminals, behind bars,” Vance said.

“They’ve fought us on basic things like funding and supporting law enforcement. They fought us on giving tax breaks to our police officers.”

The administration has frequently pointed to falling crime as one of its accomplishments, although assessments of the magnitude and causes of national crime trends can depend on the time period and data being compared.

Independent fact-checkers have previously challenged some sweeping administration claims about crime statistics.

Vance nevertheless presented the issue as a clear distinction between the parties.

“So, on every issue where we’ve been successful in promoting law and order, the Democrats have been for the criminals, and we’ve been for the American people,” Vance said.

Vance ended by turning toward another administration priority: expanding domestic production and investment.

“And finally, just just one other very, very important issue, and that’s building in the United States of America,” Vance said.
