JD Vance Reveals He and Trump ‘Wargamed’ Every Move to Pass SAVE America Act [WATCH]

Vice President JD Vance said he and President Trump have examined a detailed plan to seize control of the Senate floor and pass the SAVE America Act.

Vance discussed the strategy during an interview with Vince Coglianese released Tuesday, as reported by Breitbart.

The legislation seeks to ensure that only American citizens decide American elections.

Its provisions include requiring valid identification before registering to vote in a federal election, along with proof of citizenship.

The measure also limits the use of mail-in ballots, while allowing exceptions for illness, disability, military service, or travel. The proposal has long been a priority for Trump.

Despite that support, the SAVE America Act has remained stalled in the Senate because of unified Democratic opposition and resistance from some Republicans.

Vance said the problem is not simply a matter of Senate procedure or personnel.

One scenario discussed by Vance and Trump involved whether the vice president could take over as chair and fire the Senate parliamentarian.

Vance said he has that authority, but predicted “four, five, maybe ten” Republican senators could join Democrats to overrule the new chair.

Vance rejected the idea that removing the parliamentarian alone would solve the impasse. Instead, he placed the blame on Republican senators who refuse to stand with their own party.

“There is no shortcut; I think our people want to think the parliamentarian is the problem … the parliamentarian is a bureaucrat … the problem is we have a number of Republican senators who vote more with Democrats than their own party, and that is the issue,” Vance declared.

According to Vance, 50 united Republican senators and the vice president could remove the parliamentarian, eliminate the filibuster, pass the SAVE America Act, and advance additional measures.

The obstacle, he said, is keeping the Republican conference together.

Vance said the proposed maneuver had been studied down to the smallest detail. He also said he wanted to attempt it a few months earlier, but the plan was abandoned after they concluded it would fail.

“The problem is not who’s in the chair; the problem is four or five Republicans who are going to stand with the Democrats. We have wargamed this to every detail, and I wanted to do this a few months ago, and we ultimately decided it doesn’t make sense because it’s not going to go anywhere,” Vance explained.

Vance said he and Trump have “obsessively” considered ways to pass the SAVE America Act.

He identified Sens. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, John Cornyn of Texas, Thom Tillis of North Carolina, and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska as the four Republicans who would vote with Democrats to stop the legislation.

His proposed solution was not another procedural trick, but a change in the Senate’s Republican membership. That puts the focus squarely on replacing GOP senators who will not support the plan.

“We’re interested in winning the battle, and that means replacing mediocre Republican senators with good Republican senators,” Vance said.

Vance also used X over the summer to make the case that election integrity should reach beyond ordinary partisan divisions.

He urged lawmakers to unite behind the measure and protect voting rights in American elections.

“Election integrity is not a partisan issue; it is an AMERICAN ISSUE. Let us unite and pass the SAVE America Act and ensure every American’s right to vote in a free and fair election is protected.”

Sen. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin offered a similar assessment during a Breitbart News discussion last month. “It’s Democrats who won’t vote for it.”

Johnson said Republicans support election integrity and voter identification, while Democrats do not.

He added that Republicans lack the votes required to overcome the filibuster, the same procedural wall at the center of Vance’s proposed strategy.

Utah Republican Sen. Mike Lee separately criticized the Senate’s frequent recesses, calling them a “lost opportunity” this year.

Lee said lawmakers repeatedly promised to address the SAVE America Act when enough time became available.

Lee wrote in August that supporters had waited while the Senate fully funded DHS and handled other priorities. “It’s now August, and we’ve already taken more recess weeks this year than I can count.”
