Joe Manchin Torches Democratic Socialist Demands as Crazy Stuff [WATCH]

Sunday morning television still has a talent for producing political moments that tell voters more than the polished campaign ads ever could.

On CBS’s Face the Nation, former Senator Joe Manchin said out loud what plenty of Americans already know about the socialist wing of the Democratic Party.

Manchin appeared with his daughter, Americans Together CEO Heather Manchin, for an interview with host Margaret Brennan.

The conversation turned to so called democratic socialism, which is usually just old fashioned big government extremism wearing a fresh coat of marketing paint.

Brennan asked whether Heather Manchin could ever support a candidate who openly calls himself a socialist. Heather gave the obvious answer, “No.”

Manchin added his own reaction, “No way. My God, no.”

That was not exactly the answer the left likes hearing on a Sunday morning platform where bad ideas are often treated like brave new thinking.

Brennan pressed the point by asking whether good ideas could make such a candidate worth supporting.

Manchin responded, “I support the good ideas, but how could you support some of the crazy stuff they’re for? Have you seen their platform?”

That question cuts straight through the fog.

Democrats have spent years pretending the socialist faction is just a quirky youth movement with slogans, tote bags, and a bottomless appetite for other people’s money.

Manchin was not buying it. He said, “They’re for just dismantling everything that we know,” and then pointed to attacks on basic structures of government, law enforcement, and public order.

Then came the line that should be replayed in every battleground district.

Manchin said, “No police, no this, no this, no that. Are you crazy?”

He followed with another bit of common sense that somehow counts as controversial in modern Democratic politics

“We have to have police for that,” Manchin said while discussing the need for safe communities.

That is the heart of the issue.

The socialist left keeps treating police, prisons, national defense, and constitutional guardrails as obstacles to its grand utopian project.

Regular Americans see it differently.

They want safe streets, accountable government, secure borders, affordable groceries, and leaders who do not sound like they are auditioning for a student government revolution.

The radical wish list is not imaginary. Abolish this, defund that, eliminate the other thing, and somehow the result is supposed to be peace, fairness, and prosperity.

We have seen enough of that fantasy already.

When politicians demonize police, criminals get bolder, families get nervous, businesses flee, and the same elites who caused the mess hire private security.

Manchin also discussed why he did not pursue an independent presidential run in 2024.

Brennan noted that he had said he did not want to become a spoiler.

His answer focused on ballot access. “I couldn’t get on all 50 ballots. You put me on 50 ballots, then I have a platform, I can speak.”

Manchin added, “But I have no chance of winning because I’m only on 16 ballots or 20 ballots statewide.”

When Brennan summarized the issue, Manchin made it plain: “It’s ballot access.”

That is the built in wall facing nearly every serious third party or independent contender.

The two party system is not just cultural habit, it is reinforced by rules, money, infrastructure, and ballot hurdles that make a national run nearly impossible.

There is another obvious point Manchin did not need to dwell on.

A credible independent bid from a former Democrat could have carved votes away from the Democratic nominee and made Donald Trump’s path even clearer.

For conservatives, that would not have been a tragedy.

For Democrats, it would have been another self inflicted wound, which is practically their specialty at this point.

The larger lesson is that Manchin represents a type of Democrat that party activists seem determined to drive into extinction.

He talks about police like they matter, governing like it requires math, and socialism like it is a danger rather than a fashion trend.

If Democrats were serious about winning back working class voters, they would study why someone like Manchin still connects with people far from faculty lounges and activist conferences.

Instead, they keep flirting with the politics of Kamala Harris and Alexandria Ocasio Cortez.

That is excellent news for Republicans who want to defend the America First agenda in 2026 and beyond.

The more Democrats embrace socialist demands as mainstream policy, the easier it becomes for voters to see the choice in front of them.

Manchin may not be a conservative, but on this point he landed the plane.

Calling the socialist wish list “crazy stuff” is not an insult, it is a public service.
