Meryl Streep has humorously admitted that Robert De Niro would not be her first choice for a game night teammate.

During an appearance on the Today show, the acclaimed actress called the fellow screen legend “the worst” player when it comes to games like charades.

The 76-year-old star explained that despite working together on well-known films such as The Deer Hunter, Falling in Love, and Marvin’s Room, De Niro’s talents do not seem to translate to party games.

Speaking with Jenna Bush Hager, Streep revealed that she often plays charades with her friend and frequent co-star Stanley Tucci.

Here’s What They’re Not Telling You About Your Retirement

“I love Stanley,” she said. “We have played a lot of charades together at various parties. Try not to get Robert DeNiro on our team because he’s the worst.”

The remarks drew laughter from Tucci and their Devil Wears Prada 2 co-star Emily Blunt, who appeared amused by the good-natured jab.

Anne Hathaway, also part of the film’s cast, reacted with a smile, placing her hand on her chest and saying, “Oh, but I bet it’s so heartwarming.”

Tucci then offered his own explanation for De Niro’s struggles with charades, suggesting the actor is simply “very shy.”

Streep agreed, adding, “Very shy and he’s just not good at it,” before amusing the group by imitating De Niro’s hesitant approach to the game.

Although her comment was clearly made in jest, it highlighted the comfortable rapport and longstanding friendship between the two Oscar winners.

Their connection stretches back decades, and both have praised one another’s work publicly over the years.

De Niro once expressed admiration for Streep after her powerful Golden Globes speech in 2017, delivered shortly before Donald Trump took office for the first time.

In her remarks, Streep discussed the responsibility of actors and criticized an incident in which Trump imitated a disabled reporter, describing it as something that “broke my heart.”

Following her speech, De Niro sent Streep a heartfelt message of support, writing, “What you said was great. It needed to be said, and you said it beautifully.”

He continued, “I have so much respect for you that you did it while the world was celebrating your achievements. I share your sentiments about punks and bullies. Enough is enough.”

The mutual respect between the two performers has endured, even as Streep playfully teased her longtime friend for his less-than-stellar game night skills.

Her lighthearted comments underscored the bond of two Hollywood icons who continue to admire and enjoy each other’s company, even when one of them might be “the worst” at charades.
