Several media outlets, including the Daily Caller News Foundation, asked Republican Kentucky Sen. Mitch McConnell’s office for an interview after his office assured the public his recovery was going well and that he remained engaged in Senate business.

The DCNF requested a video interview with McConnell as the public has yet to hear directly from the senator or been given new information about his health. A McConnell spokesperson said they would keep the interview request “on hand,” along with those from several other outlets when contacted by the DCNF.

“[W]ill keep your interview request on hand with the many others. Appreciate your interest,” the spokesperson said. (RELATED: We Asked Mitch McConnell’s Staff About His Health. This Is What They Told Us)

McConnell’s office suggested he was recovering well and staying engaged while in the hospital.

“Senator McConnell appreciates the outpouring of support he’s receiving while he continues his recovery in the hospital,” a spokesperson told the DCNF. “The Senator continues to improve, and is working closely with his staff on Kentucky and Senate matters while the Senate is out of session.”

Democratic Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear requested McConnell be transparent about his health in a Wednesday letter.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune, Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso and CNN senior political commentator Scott Jennings claimed they spoke to McConnell privately for roughly 20 minutes. After releasing very similar statements, McConnell’s staff included their responses in an email sent to reporters.

🚨🚨 All of the responses to McConnell’s health sound awfully similar:

-All conversations seemed to last for about 20 minutes
-Thune, Barrasso and Jennings talked to McConnell about issues such as the Maine Senate race

McConnell was hospitalized on June 14 after being found unconscious inside his Washington, D.C., residence. Paramedics appeared to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for a “cardiac arrest,” a District Fire and EMS dispatch call showed.

The former majority leader’s staff told the DCNF that McConnell was “working closely with his staff on Kentucky and Senate matters,” though they ignored several requests for comment regarding his health. Neighbors of McConnell have reportedly not seen anyone at the home since McConnell’s hospitalization, according to journalist Desiree Townsend.

McConnell’s wife, former Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, traveled to China and said her husband’s hospitalization did “not warrant an immediate return.” His youngest daughter, Porter, deactivated her social media account while speculation arose about her father’s health.

Republican Utah Sen. Mike Lee said he knew “nothing” about McConnell’s condition, suggesting that other senators also had no knowledge.

McConnell spent several days in the intensive care unit (ICU) between Feb. 2 and Feb. 10 while suffering from flu-like symptoms. Staffers were frequently seen assisting McConnell while walking around Capitol Hill.

The former majority leader suffered several falls and experienced two on-camera freezing episodes in July 2023.
