AZ Intel later cited an emergency alert connected to the Iowa Hawkeyes, stating there were “confirmed victims” in the shooting.

The exact number of individuals injured was not immediately clear.

Another post on X described the situation as an “active event,” reporting multiple injuries but noting that details regarding the number of victims and their conditions had not been confirmed.

Authorities had not released official details regarding the number of victims, the severity of injuries, or whether any suspects had been identified at the time of the initial reports.

Information available publicly remained limited to what had been shared through social media posts and alerts.

The reported incident drew attention to previous shooting-related incidents connected to the University of Iowa.

In November of the previous year, an off-campus shooting prompted a Hawk Alert issued by the university.

According to the University of Iowa’s website, Iowa City Police made an arrest following that investigation.

“Iowa City Police have made an arrest following the an investigation into the Nov. 7 off-campus shooting which prompted a Hawk Alert.

This appears to be an isolated incident and there is no known threat to the public,” the university said at the time.

The university has also experienced a major shooting in its past. On November 1, 1991, a shooting carried out by Gang Lu, a 28-year-old former graduate student, resulted in multiple deaths on campus.

Lu killed three members of the Physics and Astronomy Department faculty, an Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, and a fellow student. Another student was seriously injured. Lu later died by suicide.
