Off the Deep End: Dems Make ‘Abolish ICE’ Official Position

Give Democrats at least this much credit for sticking to their priorities. After losing a national election largely on the issue of border security and immigration enforcement, the DNC wants to double down in the midterms.

Of course, given the DNC’s cash position at the moment, “double down” is entirely figurative.

The DNC kicked off its summer meeting in Austin by deciding that voters got it all wrong two years ago. The committee that handles policy resolutions approved two proposed additions to the party’s official positions in the midterms. The first would “reform” Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), while the second would abolish it altogether. The full membership passed both by unanimous acclamation:

The Democratic National Committee adopted a resolution Saturday urging congressional Democrats to abolish Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), alongside a competing measure calling only for reforms to the agency, at the party’s summer meeting in Austin, Texas.

The abolition measure, known as Resolution 27, cleared the DNC’s Resolutions Committee on Thursday in a 25-12 vote with one abstention before heading to the full membership, Newsweek reported. Both resolutions were bundled into a larger package and approved by the full membership on a unanimous voice vote, according to the Washington Times. The vote is nonbinding and does not change the party platform for 2028. …

The resolution calls on Democratic members of Congress to enact legislation dissolving ICE and winding down the immigration detention system. It seeks to restrict Department of Homeland Security funding unless certain enforcement activities end, including workplace raids, mass roundups, arrests at courthouses, arrests at ICE check-ins, and actions near schools and houses of worship. It also calls for terminating contracts with private detention providers.

This comes as no surprise, since practically every Democrat candidate in this cycle has adopted both positions simultaneously. The few who oppose it, such as House Democrat Henry Cuellar in Texas, are keeping their mouths shut about it. The position of their party is that ICE should not exist, Border Patrol should not exist, no illegal aliens should be detained, and that every possible method of enforcement of immigration law should be prohibited.

DNC chair Ken Martin attempted to put lipstick on this pig by claiming that this is unofficial:

“Our official party positions are determined at the convention every four years in our platform,” Martin said in a statement to Newsweek. “However, clearly, the one thing that unites Democrats, regardless of their position on reform versus abolish or whatever other ways to change what’s happening, is people believe that what ICE is doing right now and CBP and the federal government should stop. There has to be a better way.”

Notably absent from these resolutions and Democrat campaigns in this cycle: Any proposed “better way” to enforce immigration law and deport illegal aliens. The DNC and its candidates just want voters to accept open borders and all of its outcomes. Again.

The problem with this approach is that voters still remember those outcomes. The most recent Harvard-Harris CAPS poll shows a massive level of support for detaining and deporting illegal aliens who commit crimes in the US. And it also shows majority support for detaining and deporting illegal aliens even if they don’t:

Support for deporting criminal illegal aliens is 79/21 overall, and 67% of Democrat voters support it. Support drops to 55/45 when removing the emphasis on crime, but it’s still a majority position with 52% of independents supporting it, as well as 35% of Democrats. Also, while ICE is underwater on favorability at 38/48, it’s still more popular than the DSA that Democrats are trying to embrace (26/43), socialism (25/48), communism (12/67), and the Palestinian Authority (17/45). It’s even more popular than the MAGA Movement, although that comes closest (33/50).

Tom Homan gives a few good reasons why voters appreciate immigration enforcement after four years of chaos under the Biden Regency:

Tom Homan on anti-ICE Democrats:

“So you want to abolish an agency that found 151,000 children. You want to abolish an agency that seized enough fentanyl to kill every American three times over again. You want to abolish an agency that is attacking sex trafficking” pic.twitter.com/PTLEAt7Mrc

Democrats clearly want to make another election cycle all about open borders and protecting illegal aliens. I say …

Editor’s Note: Thanks to President Trump, illegal immigration into our great country has virtually stopped. Despite the radical left’s lies, new legislation wasn’t needed to secure our border, just a new president.
