Pennsylvania’s two senators managed to do what Democrat Governor Josh Shapiro would not, ensuring the Keystone State will stand tall at the nation’s 250th birthday celebration in Washington.

Senator Dave McCormick of Pennsylvania led an effort to make sure the Commonwealth would have a strong presence at the Great American State Fair in 2026 after Shapiro decided to sit this one out.

Originally, Shapiro claimed that the fair would cost too much and that Pennsylvania businesses had no appetite to sponsor the effort.

He even blamed supposed disinterest tied to opposition toward President Donald Trump as part of the excuse.

Here’s What They’re Not Telling You About Your Retirement

His administration said skipping the event would save around seven hundred thousand dollars, money he claimed would be redirected to smaller local events instead.

That reasoning did not sit well with many proud Pennsylvanians, who saw the decision as yet another example of a Democrat governor refusing to celebrate American pride on a national stage.

Alongside other Democrat-led states like Massachusetts, Oregon, and Washington, Shapiro’s Pennsylvania was among a short list of states withdrawing from the Great American State Fair, which will mark the country’s 250th anniversary since the Declaration of Independence.

Senator Dave McCormick decided that was unacceptable. He partnered with Democrat Senator John Fetterman and worked with private organizations to bypass the governor’s political blockade.

McCormick coordinated with U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins and several Pennsylvania groups to assemble a coalition that will fund and organize the state’s participation without touching taxpayer dollars.

Among the participating organizations are the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry, PennAg Industries Association, Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, National Federation of Independent Business, Pennsylvania Manufacturers’ Association, and The Manufacturer and Business Association.

These groups came together to ensure Pennsylvania would rightfully take its place in the national spotlight.

McCormick made it clear that the effort was about pride, not politics.

“Pennsylvania is where America’s story began, and there was no way we were going to let the Commonwealth go unrepresented during our nation’s 250th birthday celebration,” he said.

He reminded everyone that Pennsylvania is home to Independence Hall, the battlefields of Gettysburg, and a proud industrial backbone that helped power America’s rise.

Senator Fetterman also agreed, pointing out that celebrating Pennsylvania’s contributions to America’s history should be a bipartisan priority.

He joined McCormick in supporting an exhibit that highlights the state’s strengths in manufacturing, farming, small business, and innovation.

WATCH:

This collaboration shows what happens when leadership rises above political gamesmanship, something Pennsylvania’s governor apparently could not manage.

The private funding model turned out to be the key. Without public money on the line, there were no excuses about costs or sponsors.

McCormick and the business community proved that a deep love for the Commonwealth and for America is more than enough to unite people across affiliations.

Their success embarrassed Shapiro, whose administration’s absence from the event now looks petty and ideological.

The Great American State Fair will be a 16-day event running from June 25 to July 10, 2026, held right on the National Mall in Washington.

States and territories from across the union will showcase exhibits on American history, culture, agriculture, and innovation.

It will be the centerpiece celebration of America’s semiquincentennial, marking 250 years of independence.

WATCH:

Pennsylvania’s display is expected to focus on the state’s monumental impact on the nation’s founding and development.

Leaders from participating organizations have said that it will feature elements of heritage, industrial power, and agricultural excellence.

The fair will offer visitors a glimpse into how Pennsylvania helped shape the very identity of the United States.

For McCormick, the achievement is about restoring respect for Pennsylvania’s historic role.

He called the state the “engine for the arsenal of democracy,” pointing to its industry and innovation that have repeatedly served the nation in times of need.

Saving taxpayer money while still honoring American history is a winning combination by any conservative measure.

Shapiro, on the other hand, now stands out as the governor who had to be circumvented for his own state to take part in a patriotic national celebration.

His decision to bow out speaks volumes about modern Democrat priorities.

When given a choice between showcasing American greatness and making a political statement, too many Democrats choose politics every time.

Thanks to Senators McCormick and Fetterman, Pennsylvanians will not be spectators during America’s 250th birthday.

They will have a deserved presence, fully funded by private enterprise and civic pride.

The same cannot be said for those Democrat-held states still refusing to join in, apparently more focused on saving political face than honoring national history.

The episode is a powerful reminder that conservative leadership and private initiative remain the engines that get real results.

When government sits on its hands, the private sector still finds a way to deliver.

Pennsylvania’s inclusion in America’s 250th celebration is more than symbolic.

It is proof that pride in our nation is alive and well in spite of partisan obstruction.
