Authorities say a 16-year-old girl was abducted at gunpoint while waiting for her school bus before managing to alert a gas station employee and escape, leading to the arrest of a suspect identified as a repeat offender, as reported by Fox News.
The incident occurred shortly after 7 a.m. on Monday, April 13, near the intersection of Edwin and Brombach streets in Hamtramck, according to a police news release.
Surveillance video captured the moment a man allegedly approached the teenager at a bus stop, held a handgun to her back, and forced her into a van as other students waited nearby.

Another student who witnessed the incident immediately contacted authorities. Police said officers worked with students at the school who were tracking the victim’s cellphone location as part of the response effort.

Investigators said the victim was later located at a nearby gas station. According to authorities, the suspect sent the girl inside to purchase cigarettes, and she used the opportunity to signal to a cashier that she was in danger.
Officers responded to the gas station and took the suspect into custody. Authorities identified him as 48-year-old Donald James Joseph Arthur Fields.
Surveillance video from the gas station shows officers confronting Fields. During the encounter, an officer can be heard saying, “You’re being detained right now.”
“For what?” Fields asked.

“We’ll tell you in a second,” the officer replied.
Authorities said the investigation revealed the victim had allegedly been sexually assaulted before police intervened.
Fields has been charged as a third-time habitual offender with kidnapping, two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, felonious assault, three counts of felony firearm, and felon in possession of a firearm.
He is being held at the Wayne County Jail after a judge determined he posed what was described as the “ultimate” risk to the community, according to FOX 2.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy issued a statement addressing the case and the victim’s actions.
“Our young survivor in this case was simply walking in broad daylight when she was viciously attacked and sexually assaulted,” Worthy said.
“Despite what she had just gone through, her quick thinking and mental toughness saved her life. We cannot reverse what happened to her, but we can work hard to bring justice to her.”
The case remains under investigation as authorities continue to review evidence and pursue prosecution.
