Dan Greaney, writer of the famed 2000 episode of “The Simpsons” which predicted the presidency of President Donald Trump, has announced his own bid for president in 2028.
In a series of short-form videos posted to social media titled “The Reckoning,” Greaney appears in an Old Testament “prophet costume” and describes his background and reason for running.
In part one, he begins by outlining his current “prophecies,” which include the downfall of Trump and the subsequent downfall of Vice-President JD Vance. Greaney goes on to compare Trump, Vance and “the billionaires” to those arrested in association with Watergate, while also calling out “spineless Democrats who refuse to stand up for us.” He concludes part one by saying, “The fury of the righteous has arisen.”
In part two, he begins by lamenting the downfall of “all men are created equal” in modern American politics. He announces his bid for the presidency in 2028 by transforming from his costume into a suit, with the caption “Judgment Day is Here!”
In a video featured on his campaign website, Greaney says that he is running as a “progressive republican, in the style of Abraham Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt,” in order to “build a coalition to restore democracy.” (RELATED: Rand Paul Considers Plans For 2028)
Greaney’s campaign website argues for a bipartisan coalition that will work towards universal healthcare, “policies aimed at increasing housing affordability” and the “Green New Deal.” The website offers no insight into what these policies would look like in action or a specific legislation proposal.
Greaney outlines several points of his campaign, including reforming the Supreme Court. He argues for an expansion from nine to thirteen justices, legislation to narrow the court’s jurisdiction, and appointing an “accountability-oriented attorney general to investigate the Supreme Court.”
His second point is simply “restoring the rule of law,” which he defines as accountability for “Trump administration’s lawlessness,” and “prosecution of campaign contributions that were in fact corrupt influence-buying”.
Greaney’s final policy approach is a “multi-tiered approach combining transparency legislation and a constitutional amendment to repeal Citizens United.”
In Greaney’s famous episode of “The Simpsons,” “Bart to the Future,” Greaney depicts a world set sometime before 2030 where Donald Trump was elected president. Lisa Simpson is subsequently elected president herself and must deal with a budget crisis left by Trump.
