Tony Romo has been put on leave from CBS Sports after his arrest for allegedly driving while intoxicated in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, as reported by Page Six.

“Tony Romo is on leave from his role at CBS Sports until further notice,” a network rep told Page Six on Friday, a little more than a week after the retired NFL star was arrested.

Romo has not publicly addressed the matter. His representatives also have not responded to repeated requests for comment.

The former Dallas Cowboys quarterback moved into broadcasting after retiring from football in April 2017. He currently works as CBS Sports lead NFL game color analyst.

Here’s What They’re Not Telling You About Your Retirement

The traffic stop happened last Thursday after a Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office deputy pulled Romo over for “unsafe passing” while he was driving south on the high-rise bridge.

According to the report, the 46-year-old appeared confused about why he had been stopped. He said he was headed to his grandparents’ house after spending the day at a golf course.

The arresting deputy told Romo he was being investigated for OWI “based on your driving and where you were coming from” as well as his “red, glassy eyes and the odor of an intoxicating alcoholic beverage on your breath.”

Romo insisted he had consumed “zero” alcoholic beverages. However, the deputy said authorities found “a few shooters” in his backpack.

The California Post also reported that deputies discovered an “open bottle of an alcoholic beverage” on the passenger side of Romo’s car. After that, he was taken to the station.

At the station, Romo struggled during a field sobriety test. Bodycam footage showed him asking if he could stretch before attempting the routine tasks.

He then stretched on one of the patrol vehicles before continuing. At one point, a deputy asked whether he understood the instructions.

“No, there’s too many,” Romo replied. Even though he had trouble following along, he still asked the deputies whether he had passed.

Deputies then asked if he would submit to a breathalyzer. Romo responded, “Oh, no, we’re not doing that. I already heard from all the lawyers: don’t ever do that.”

Romo also asked if he could call his parents. The deputies told him he would be able to do so in due time.

They explained that they would ask a judge to sign off on a warrant for a blood draw. The purpose was to determine what, if anything, was in his system and how much.

Romo has been cited for allegedly operating a vehicle while intoxicated, possessing open intoxicants in his car, unsafe passing and refusing to take a chemical test for intoxication after an OWI arrest.

That refusal triggered the state notice to revoke his driver’s license. However, Romo has requested a refusal hearing.

The arrest marks Romo’s first. He was booked and released shortly afterward, and he is due in court for an intake hearing on Sept. 21.

Romo is married to former Miss Missouri USA Candice Crawford. The couple shares three sons.
