President Donald Trump says he has approved new fuel economy standards aimed at cutting vehicle costs, delivering on his effort to terminate the electric vehicle mandate imposed under former President Joe Biden.
The final rule has not yet been made available.

“I have just approved new Fuel Economy Standards that TERMINATE Sleepy Joe Biden and Pete Boot-EDGE-EDGE’s ridiculous EV Mandate.”

Trump also delivered a blistering assessment of the mandate’s impact on manufacturers and consumers.
“The Dumocrats cost our Great Auto Manufacturers $Billions, forced Americans into cars they never wanted, and wasted Billions on Chargers that were never built.”
The new standards terminate the Environmental Protection Agency’s electric vehicle mandate.
Trump presented the change as a major victory for American auto workers, manufacturers, car buyers, and families facing steep vehicle prices.

“These new Standards will take the waste out of building cars in America. That means LOWER PRICES, saving families thousands on a new, beautiful, and safe car,” Trump wrote.
Trump contrasted the vehicles he expects under the standards with those associated with the previous policy.
“Far better than the Environmental Monsters that we were building heretofore. Every Manufacturer, from General Motors to Ford to Stellantis, has called me wanting to build here, and now they can!”
Under Biden, the Environmental Protection Agency ordered about 67% of new light duty and medium duty vehicle sales to be electric by 2032.
Trump’s newly approved fuel economy standards terminate that mandate, according to the announcement.

Stellantis, one of the Big Three automakers and the owner of Jeep, Chrysler, and Ram, has said it will invest $13 billion in Midwest auto factories.
Those facilities are located in Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan.
The Stellantis commitment provides a specific example of the manufacturing investment highlighted in Trump’s announcement.
The president said more than $100 billion is being invested in American automobiles under his administration.
“Under my Administration, over 100 $Billion is being invested in American Autos, and that’s just the beginning,” Trump wrote.
“The Plants are coming back, and Jobs are returning , to Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, South Carolina, and all over our Country.”
Trump also thanked Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick.
“Thank you to our Great Secretaries of Transportation and Commerce, Sean Duffy and Howard Lutnick.”
The president closed his message with two familiar declarations. “AMERICA IS BACK.”
He added, “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!”
Vehicle affordability remains a central part of Trump’s case for changing the standards.
According to Kelley Blue Book, the average price of a new car sold in July was around $50,000.
